Gameplay - It seems like a reasonable foundation but there's not a lot to do because it's so short. 3

Story - Interesting hook, but unfinished. 3

Presentation - The art style is excellent. 4

Creativity - The dialogue in particular is very fun, and the premise is definitely not something you see everyday. 5

Horror - Most of the horror is atmospheric or implied, unfortunately. 2

Theme - The cursed jewel is literally the main character. 5

Honestly, most of these would almost certainly be higher for the full game but it's such a short demo. It definetly left me looking forward to more, I hope you continue this.

a demo with a lot of potential! i really look forward to see what'll be done with the gameplay mechanics, and the narrative is also really intriguing! i can't wait for the horror elements to really kick in! :)

Developer

Thank you for playing! ^_^ I'm glad you enjoyed it. We'll be sure the horrors are horroring on release!! :)!

Really very short, more of a tutorial than a demo, but the concept is truly original and the gameplay idea and the dialogues between the Stone and the Adventurer are promising! Definitely curious about the final result.

(In all this, in what sense there's no promised cat? Do you mean that the Stone isn't already a grumpy cat?)

Thank you so much!! We’re so glad you found it interesting, even if the demo is a bit short :]!

(And you’re so right, it totally is <3)

Definitely on the shorter side so I don't have too much I can say but I did really like it and I was all-in for playing more, very curious to see where you will take it. 👍

Started to play this game. Honestly I'm REALLY hungry for more. I'm actually excited Unity can work with 2D assets like this and still play similarly to an RPGMaker game. The controls were a little tricky to learn but once I have learned them. I was running around as the little warrior and the cursed jewel communicating with the player!

Hey!! Thank you so much for playing our demo, we're so glad you enjoyed it and found it interesting :]! It definitely takes a lot of setting up in unity, but the end result is very cool and gives a lot of freedom for building the game!

Alright, so, this was very short. Still, here's my review:

SPOILERS

Gameplay:

Well, there were dialogue choices in the demo, walking around, picking up items and using your transmutation power to transform a lead key into a golden key. The gold transmutation mechanic is supposedly gonna be the centerpiece of the gameplay and used heavily in puzzles, but you use it once to turn an item into gold and unlock the door, which doesn't really give the player a good idea where it's gonna be heading past the demo.

This really should've had atleast one more puzzle so that the players could get a better sense about what to expect from the full release of this game. Still, there's nothing detracting from the experience (so far). I just think that this has potential to be much better in this category than the demo currently shows.

Also, there seemes to have been some problems with the transfer to the next map where I couldn't figure out how to actually leave after unlocking the door, but manage to find the right spot after a few minutes.

3 Stars!

Story:

Alright, with the length of the demo, there's not much to rate it when it comes to story and not that much can be determined about where the story is gonna go, the setup is simple, but the dialogue between the Philosopher's Stone and the Adventurer is great and fun. So, this certainly raised the rating.

4 Stars!

Presentation:

Alright, this is great, the art, the music, sound effects, the text sounds... all great! The only issue I have are the white outlines that show up when you get close to an interactable item. I suggest you work on those and make them look less... rough.

5 Stars!

Creativity:

Well, playing as the philosopher's stone guiding an adventurer is an interesting and creative concept. I'm going to rate this category more on what I expect this game to be like rather than what it shows at this time.

5 Stars!

Horror:

Well, there's not much to rate here. The game ends before it can really even get to this part. Still, you've managed to give good atmosphere to the underground dungeon, so there's atleast that.

2 Stars!

Theme:

Well, you are the philosopher's stone guiding an adventurer out of an underground dungeon. If there's any curse associated with the jewel, the game doesn't mention that. Still, it seems like it fits the theme well anyway.

4 Stars!

Looking forward to the full version of this game! I suggest you atleast do another, extended version of the demo that shows off more of the puzzles.

Thank you for your review! :]

We wanted to have a released version before the deadline, which in retrospect meant things aren't as polished as we would've hoped, and the extra scene that played with the transmute mechanic more didn't make it either, even if the mechanic is built... :,) Hopefully an extended demo can be released before rating period ends, but I can only say it tentatively because I've been forced to go on a break ahaha.

Unfortunately the horror and the theme is a bit slow building so it will only really come into effect in the final game...  but we hope you'd give it a try when it is! Thank you for hosting the event, we all had a lot of fun and learnt a lot too.
