I love the way the ascii graphics, bullets, and explosions look and the turn based dodging of projectiles was a lot of fun! It tended to devolve into a game of dodging the initial volley of bullets and then dealing with the few enemies that managed to survive all the friendly fire, though, which presumably wasn't exactly what you were going for. I did enjoy the chain explosions and getting enemies to hit each other, but the current rate at which it happens seems a bit excessive. Still very challenging and satisfying to complete a sector, though.
Yeah, the pacing is a bit off for sure. On my to-do list is a much better AI that tries not to shoot its allies so much. I wrote the existing AI in maybe 10 minutes…
Wow this is wild, like a turn based bullet hell or something. Very chaotic, but the mouse look and ascii animation make it easy to parse (I really like the animated explosions). The music slaps as well.
It is challenging to catch and time the shots, especially for the larger vessels and to catch the falling pickups, but very cool mechanics none the less. Nice entry!
Thanks for the kind words! We had a plan to add some kind of “item collector” power to the player ship but ran out of time. The working title was “Bullet Hell Roguelike” so you’re right on the money. :)
