  • I like the presentation and it seems like a cool horror/fatal frame concept, the controls are just a little clunky and things clearly aren't finished up totally. The biggest issue I had was it seems really unclear on what is even an aberration. Like there are giant purple texture couches that appear to be bugs but have a name in the camera, and some items are weird and have names in the camera but didn't show in the lexicon? Overall good effort and I think it was a cool concept that just needs some bug fixing and refinement!

What do you like about your game?
The very fact that I was able to finish something instead of having 30 pending projects going on.

Nice. As far as criticism; it's quite dark, the mouse sensitivity is quite high, the pixel filter is pretty overwhelming and hides some of the artistic quality of the assets. The models look very nice, especially the protagonist, and the premise of the game seems quite fun and is something I would like to see developed. It overall feels very eerie with the droning ambiance, slow text, and lack of music, which might be intentional, but it feels a bit at odds with the cuteness of the character and the premise of the game. Overall feels like the game has a lot of potential and I would love to see it polished up and expanded.

There were a lot of things I wanted to get done, it was very rushed in the end. But thank you for the review!

Nice game. Great work with the models and textures. The camera mechanic is also fun but its uses seem limited.

The lightning is too sparse and it makes it difficult to navigate the levels. It took me several tries to complete the first level because I kept missing one of the rooms. And on the second level I quickly died from one of the enemies that appeared from outside the screen.

The shift in tone between the office and the haunted houses is too sudden and Abby looks a bit out of place in the eerie environment. Maybe something can be done to make the character and setting more cohesive or to introduce the horror elements more gradually.

Also is hard to read the gray text on black background on the itch page.

Very cute and very retro. Camera was acting a little weird but I managed to get used to it. The main issue I had was that I wasn't quite sure what to do. I know tutorials in games are considered kind of lame but I think it would have been nice if the game told you how to play it in game.  I figured out from the game page that you use the camera with F, but nothing about how to actually interact with the errors and earn points (tried every button I could). On that note though, I do like that how apparitions in this world are simply just missing texture errors, since everything is in PS1 style graphics, cool little world building!

Developer

Haha, sorry if I didn't have a tutorial. I thought I gave away enough hints as to what to do via the main page. You should check the Lexicon that you can access by press ESC and going to the lexicon section after using your camera on an aberration. Your objective is to correct them, since aberrations are things outside of normal.

cannot review, something seem to be broken on my end, it look nothing like what kaiser&isaac described. is it normal that some objects appear purple and black and labelled error texture? i thought i was a feature but since you cant interact with them im uncertain.
a video playthrough would be greatly appreciated ^^'

Developer

He was likely overexaggerating. The error texture is not a bug, it's part of the game, the tutorial/instruction guide is on the page of the game, please refer to that, sorry for the inconvenience.

mmh ok thanks for the reply, will check again :)

ok, something was really wrong on my end! i see whats the games mechanics now. interesting concept, quite good visuals althougth controls are a bit rigid and the darkness/fog make it a bit too hard to navigate through the level

Great Game.

It had a cute-like presentation at the start but had rather an ominous and heavy-like atmosphere after, didn't expect this to be a psychological horror game, the atmosphere of Detective Abby is basically eerie and immersive.

The pixel art style actually has its own unique aesthetic that adds to the game's charm, and the sound effects are paired perfectly between them.

Took me a while to actually get used to the controls but it still are solid, and the main mechanics in this game was rather simple and very quick to be understood.

The Enemies. It was a bit challenging but after a few encounters, I knew what to do to keep them at bay.
The objectives and the investigative gameplay elements are engaging, but there could be more diversity in puzzles and interactions to add depth to the gameplay experience.

I only encountered only little and few bugs but it mainly didn't affect the gameplay much which was surprising for me and I have to commend to the creator for such a great work.

In summary, Detective Abby grants a captivating blend of psychological horror and mystery, immersive atmosphere, and a unique pixel art. While there are rooms for improvements, the overall game remains highly enjoyable and is a must-play.

Game is rather perfect in my opinion as I'm a player that plays mainly genres of mystery and psychological.

The inverted camera is... rough 😅

Your Game is very good

This is a really interesting game! I loved the artstyle, and the main character is very cute! I didn't really like the inverted mouse for the camera, it was quite difficult to control especially because the sensitivity is quite high! I also had some issues where when I went into the camera view it would clip into the character's head. Other than that though, I enjoyed the game and the vibes :)

Glad you liked it, I didn't know the controls were inverted, I used the inputs to correspond to where the camera was moving (you move the camera up, it looks down) rather than the logic as to how it should look like, and due to me playing the game a lot testing it I ended up forgetting that it's not really normal (got used to the controls to the point it became normal to me lol).
