Wow I'm really late on posting this. I started reviewing it then forgot then remembered.
Thoughts:
I feel legitimate heartache that I am not physically in shove-a-puck pub right now shoving pucks and drinking a pint
the puck that shows what menu option is selected is partially hidden behind the center portrait
that chalk vfx is sex
It took me most of the first round to understand the power mechanic. Would be good to give a hint on that
need more music variety
your puck icon kinda looks like a red fruit that was cut in half
I want an option to make the game go faster. Like skip all the reaction animations and stuff

I think this game should have one of those systems where the power bar or directional aiming moves back and forth like on a timer and you have to hit the button at the right time to try to get the power you want or angle you want. Since I can perfectly place all my shots, it just becomes mostly a strategy game. But there's not enough complexity to sustain that.
Let me back out of shots. Once you lock in your position, you have to take the shot, and cannot change your mind.
Wait time between the rounds is a bit long. In general the matches take quite a long time.
I think the characters should have more personality in how they play. Maybe they already do and I didn't notice, but I think making some characters more aggressive or do certain strategies could add a lot.
Music is a bit repetitive. It isn't bad, but it gets a bit mind-numbing after a point.
I saw your stream when you played the game. You have a good setup.
Thanks for playing the game. (I think it was you who pressed Esc to try to back out of the shot) I already made a few suggestions you made on stream.
The characters could do with some more variety in their shots. The do get more accurate as you progress through the levels. I agree another music piece would be nice too.
I LOVED the intro and the soundtrack, i wish there was a way to cancel the current action (maybe i just missed it) because pressing esc just brings me back to the menu, and out of the game.
Oter than that the game feels pretty polished, the enemies are challenging, and the game's nice overall, very good looking too imo
I will start saying that the end of the game is amazing and I fully didn't expect it. I was going to stop much sooner, but since I found a strategy that worked pretty well I wanted to see how far I could take it.
One thing that really should be taken care of is the wait times. Waiting for the puck to fully stop, waiting for the scores to tally (for each player), waiting for the new round, the amount of waiting hurts the game. The character reaction and the tally could be put on the same scene to save time for example.
Absolute kino. We will all be forever mystified as to why you made this, but it’s good that you did.
Small notes:
- Typo in final dialogue text: "oscure"
- I did have sound, just hadn’t set up OBS to capture. Generally I like the audio, but the generic background music in the normal fights was a bit underwhelming considering how awesome the music is in the intro.
- The singalong font in the credits screen has weird grey boxes behind most characters. Great song by the way!
- I thought at first that the intermediate rounds counted for something, since their score was visually tallied. After understanding that only the final board state matters, I figured that it’s very easy to win when going second, by just fullsmashing every opponent play, except the final one, which will stand on the 5 and you just gently shove it off the 5, claiming 5 yourself, for victory. I just failed this once against the final boss because I used too little juice in the final throw >__<
Thanks for playing the game and for picking up the typo / font errors. It was supposed to be a shadow but i changed the font before the final build which messed it up I think
The main reason for making this game was to try and complete a game from start to finish (it was a new year's resolution). The inspiration for the game was Shufflepuck Cafe which was an old Air hockey game where you could see the opponents reactions. But I wanted to add some strategy like curling.
There is a very good chance this will be the last Demo Day for Shove-a-Puck pub. It has been a lot of fun to work on and thanks to anyone from agdg who downloaded and gave it a try.
The game is now playable from start to finish. With sound effects and music across the whole of the game.

That is a good suggestion with the cancel button. It isn't present currently but I will add this in.
Thanks for playing the game too.
Beat the entire game. Video:

Also good intro and very nice spritework overall.
Thanks for playing the game. I'll think of some ways to increase the time waiting during the turn changeover. As you suggested it can be sped up.
Congratulations on completing it to the end too.
