Great job on your first game! Having different 'levels' like jetpack joyride was a great idea making it seem like your progressing more. Birds using worms as money is a fun idea. Although I feel the worm counter should stay on screen while playing so you can see how many you have like your score does. Nice job!

Developer

Yeah you're right, I could probably put it under the score counter. When I originally added it I wasn't entirely sure where I was going with the shop but that would be a good thing to add now. Tysm for the feedback!

I like this game! It wasn't too hard. Often endless games like this have a point they hit where they're just impossible, but sometimes it's nice when a game just lets you play it until you're done.

I bought the hat. I know you said you would have added more hats if you had more time, but I like the idea that this bird more than anything just wanted his little santa hat. He doesn't seem to care that all the other birds are attacking him.

Excellent balance for a first game, I think! I hadn't noticed the top-of-the-screen invincibility issue. Maybe a blue bird that flies up and acts lke a rock, but opposite?

Also welcome to the world of pixel art! My pointer here is that some of the backgrounds make some of the sprites kindof hard to see, and the solution to this is more contrast on the objects you're meant to see, like shine and shadows on the worms and rocks and even the sticks against the darker backgrounds.

Had a good time! Looking forward to what you do next.

Tysm for the pixel art tips! I wanted to make the background change to give a sense of progression but as you said some made it hard to see. I love the blue bird idea for avoiding that issue. I did originally intend to have some sorta story where the bird is learning to fly with his jetpack while the other birds are making fun of him. And when you make it far enough it plays another cutscene where the bird catches up to his family. Buttt never got around to adding that either lol.

Thanks again for playing and the feedback! I really appreciate it :D

Hi again, wanted to expand on my feedback as we were matched on comment club. I also want to stress up front that I know this is your first game and I think you did a phenomenal job. Some of my feedback can be handwaved as "if I had more time". :)

Jetpack Joyride is a great game, so you already had me pumped before I played it. Controls feel good. It's been a long time since I played Jetpack, so I can't remark on how accurate they are to that game. But at no point did I feel like I was out of control or that I died due to something that was not completely my fault.

The enemies are good, but could use a little more tweaking. A little bit of variable aim assist on them would probably go a long way. The rocks made it so that you couldn't just walk along the floor, you actually had to fly over them, but I did find that most of the time I could just press right against the top of the screen, only having to come down for the occasional bird that was all the way at the top of the screen. More enemy types/obstacles would probably solve that and keep things a lot more engaging as well.

I also wanted to ask if you made all of the assets yourself or if you downloaded them. Some free stuff is licensed in a way where you can use it, but you need to credit the author. Other stuff is a more open license that doesn't require credit. And stuff you paid for generally does not require credit. Or if you made it all yourself, excellent job!

All in all, an enjoyable game. MUCH better than my first game.

ps. my Highscore is 55300 now without cheesing the top of screen thing.

Developer

Tysm for the detailed reply! I found that you could fly to the top to avoid everything but couldn't find a good way to fix it. As for the aim I have the sticks throwing just a couple blocks to the right of the player at the time of the throw, as again I just didn't know how to do it any differently lol. I actually made all the assets myself! I'm learning pixel art and think it turned out alright, as for the music... there's an option to disable it for a reason lol.

Again tysm for the detail, I'm planning on continuing game dev and it goes a long way helping my improvement.

No way, music is fine. I left it on the entire time I played.

The fact that you made all of the assets for this yourself makes this even more impressive. Great work!

Developer

Tyyyy! I found I enjoy making something and showing it off when its 100% made by me. More of a personal thing but I enjoy it.

This was fun! I thought the premise was cute too!

Tyy, Yeah I thought of the idea and was actually able to execute it how I wanted it, very proud of how it came out!
