This is very cool, I love the sprites, especially the main character. I had a problem where I couldnt press the buttons on the main menu while in full screen. Overall this is a really solid game, very cool.

Developer

hmmm.. I'll check that out. Thanks for playing! <3

Hey. I recorded a video about the Beginners Circle jam and included your game in it. If you want to cut your game out of the video, let me know. However, if you like the video, I make similar videos every day. I will be happy if you subscribe. Anyway, I enjoyed playing your game.

Developer(+1)

thank you! the video is great and I'm already subscribed :3 thanks for playing <3

I enjoyed it. :)

One of my favorites in this jam! even though some of the wall jumping felt off, the animations and solid UI made up for it. And if you do fix that wall jump then this will be a great game.

One more thing, since wall jumping is such a core mechanic of this game, you should have a little tutorial introducing the mechanic to the player. it does not have to be a full fledged tutorial, it could just be a floating text that tells you how to wall jump. i say this after spending at least 5 minutes losing to eventually realize there is a wall jump mechanic xD.

keep it up!

Developer

thank you!! I'm a bit burnt out from this project at the moment, but I definitely would like to come back to it and fix the wall jump! floating text at the beginning is a great idea, maybe even an illustration could help.. thanks for letting me know and thanks for playing! :)

I love the art and animations. The wall-jumping felt a little weird to me, but overall fun game!

Developer

thank you! the wall-jumping is definitely a bit hard to control, with more time I would've liked to fix it. thanks for playing and I'm glad you liked it :D

I really like the apple animation! A challenging yet fun game.

Developer

aw thanks <3 glad you liked it

This is challenging! I liked the animations and the music as well. Nicely done!

Developer

thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed it <3

Love the little apple's animations. The wall jumping felt a little off. I didn't have much control after jumping off the wall and it felt like I was fighting against the inertia pushing me away from the wall. Overall, cool game.

Developer(+1)

The wall-jumping definitely needed work!! It's my first time doing something like this so I wasn't able to come up with an elegant solution and left it as-is, but I agree that it's hard to deal with that force :P

thanks so much for playing, it means a lot to both me and the artist, and I'm sure he'll be very happy you liked the animations :3

(Copy paste of my comment in the game itself)

Well, after playing for around 1 hour, there are my conclusions:

The game is fun at the start, and can be addicting. However, I think it may only be addicting to hardcore players like me.

My maximun score is 843, and reaching a 1000  seems to be plausible but extremely hard. What was the maximun score of each member of the team?

What makes it hard to pass the 850 mark is both the speed of the "lava" and how some jumps can be unpredictable.

Overall, I really liked this game and I loved the music.

P.S: Pls get rid of the "pressing down skips a platform" thing, going down in this game is too punishing for that mechanic to be useful. Using down to decend faster seems like a better use for the down button.

P.S P.S: Keep the good work!

Developer

thanks for playing so long, and thanks for all the feedback!

Yeah, the game is more challenging than I thought it was hahah, I will definitely keep that in mind for the next game I make. You got much further than most people I showed it to, although I (the programmer and dev) got to around 1250 :P. I'm not sure how far the artist made it, but I think you beat him XD

The lava speeds up slowly as you rise and eventually a single mistake can end the game for you, I think if I were making the game again I would make it easier at the beginning and increase in difficulty more slowly. I also definitely had some problems programming the wall-jumping, and the way it works is a bit confusing

The going down a platform was intended for another version of the game where there were going to be more enemies that came in and the lava wouldn't speed up, so the mechanic made sense. You're right that it's not useful here, and descending faster is a great idea! might just do that today or sometime this week :p

Thanks for taking the time to play and write this all out, it means a lot!! <3

I kinda like the walljumping being a little weird though, it can create some unexpected fun situations. I am looking forward for newer versions of the game!

Developer

hahah I like that point of view XD

now I'm definitely looking forward to updating it :)

This game made me think of one of Rayman's levels where we have to climb the level as fast as possible before the water reach us. The player's sprite is nicely animated ! I couldn't get far enough to see the enemies sadly, but good job ! :)

Also, I found a bug with the wall jumps : wall-jumping multiple times quickly messes up our player's lateral velocity, he's shaking for some time right after the jumps.

Developer(+1)

thank you! the artist worked hard on the animations and you're right that they're SUPER CUTE <3

thanks for pointing out that bug, programming the wall-jumping was definitely a challenge for me. I think what's happening there is that the game isn't quite sure whether the character is wall-sliding or free-falling, and with more time I would've liked to fix that.

thanks so much for playing and reviewing, I'm glad you liked it :)

nice. the controls feel very smooth. like the DIY aesthetic :-)

Developer(+1)

thank you, I'm very happy with how most of the controls ended up feeling and I'm glad you had fun :)
