An instant classic, visuals and sounds are top-notch and turn-based elements really bring a blast from the past here.
I really enjoyed the game! The graphics are cute and I really liked the crafting mechanic. The description says 10 minutes, but I spent like 30 minutes playing the game haha
Unfortunately, I couldn't figure out how to kill the phoenix and didn't feel like starting over for the 5th time :D
It's a good proof of concept. If you ever expand on it, I would give it a play. Thank you
Cool game, I though the art style looke nice and its got alot of content, so well done. Some feedback I would have though is that its ffficult to make weapons since they are expensive and dont deal much damage, making you avoid slimes most of the time. However, the game was easily understandable and I liked how the first room is spaced out to clearly teach you how to play the game, like having the grass room with the grave. Well done on the game!
This is a really nice game and cool idea.
Unfortunately the balance kinda throws things out of whack for me. I spent most of my time trying to avoid the slimes so I could build up enough of an arsenal to progress just to get taken out in one hit by the phoenix in the sewer area.
I read that this is more of a proof-of-concept than a complete game, so I'm sure you have plans for expansions, but a few specific things I think could benefit the game is a higher water drop rate (since you need it for everything but as far as I can tell you can only get it from the first four graves), visible stats on items and enemies, the ability to use healing potions outside of combat, and more locations with cauldrons.
This is still very well made, and one of my favourite games from the jam so far. I'm willing to take another crack at it if there's something I missed, like some kind of strategy that makes things a bit easier/more balanced.
Yeah it’s definitely not fair. The phoenix was my idea of an endgame boss but of course it’s just the third enemy. The intended strat is to just craft a poison, craft enough potions to build your hp up to 10, then poison and defend through the phoenix fight. Once you’ve killed phoenix you’ve got all the materials to craft the end game item to end the run.
Managed to beat the game doing what you suggested. In a way, it kinda works more like a puzzle game than a rpg, which could lead to some interesting design opportunities.
Nice game and really cute art :) I think what you could improve would be the controls, x for opening and closing menu is not what most people are used to, like ESC. Or actions buttons like space or E instead of Z. But the game itself is really good :)
Thank you for playing. Yeah sorry, unfortunately it’s one of the limitations of the Pico8/Picotron - you can technically override their default controls but it’s kinda hard.
It’s meant to emulate an old SNES controller.
Ah ok, thanks for the response. Now it makes sense :D
Really cute art and i loved the concept but i thought i had to only use one poison on the dragon to kill him...turns out you need more so i kept dying ;-;
Use one poison then defend while he dies to poison.
Your idea was quite funny to play but the lack of damage make you avoid every fight by running instead of fighting for your life :(
You need bombs to fight and you only need to fight the slime twice(depending on rng) to complete the game.
I enjoyed this game even though I'm not a huge fan of turn-based rpgs. My only gripes would be that the bomb does basically no damage which was kind of frustrating, and I wish the enemies dropped valuables. Great job though!
Yeah the game was too short to have the enemies drop anything that wasn’t materials necessary to craft the endgame item.
It's nice seeing a pico game around here. Nice concept! :D
This is super cool loved all the art and the systems were pretty fun super solid entry! : )
I thought it was gonna be a chill crafting game then a slime stole all my dandy lions! Love the style, great mechanics
Took me a bit of time to beat but I'm glad that I did, the game looks really charming and fun, it would be really cool to see this expanded
Thank you. It’s inspired by a series called Atelier - very “anime”, but fun crafting based rpgs.
Really well made game. Loved the pixel art!
This hits me with a huge wave of nostalgia from several games of my childhoud. Well done !
