Edited: below was my original comment before I was able to test it.

I like this game! The models look awesome, although I do wish the camera controls were a bit more intuitive so I could get a closer look without zooming the whole map offscreen. Maybe even just a “reset camera” button would help, in lieu of a full blow camera system.

It wasn’t totally clear to me what all the side effects of upgrading towers are, but they didn’t seem to cause too much trouble for me – after a certain point, I had built/upgraded enough towers that I could freely run waves without doing much, almost like an idle game (although some enemies did almost sneak through a couple times before I filled out all my tower slots).

Overall I think it’s pretty nice given the time constraints of the jam. I’d love to see this fleshed out more into a full game, I think it could be really fun!

I wasn’t able to get it to run on web (Firefox 111, macOS 12.6.3) or run the native macOS build… In case you are trying to debug the cause of the crash, here is what it says:

I’ll see if I can come back on Linux later to test this game properly!

WASM should work on Chrome. But it takes some time to load sometimes due to the size of the assets.

Developer(+1)

It works for me in firefox but does take some time to load. If you see the “Run Wave!” Button but only a grey background it is still loading.

Thanks, I think it was just taking a really long time to load on my old Macbook. Tried again today on my Steam Deck (in desktop mode) and it worked after waiting only a short time. Gonna play and add a proper rating now!

Developer(+1)

Yeah thats a problem due to time Constraints I skipped the loading dialog and such. For such a short time I definetly need more experience. Although thanks due to this submission I know more on how to do it within these constraints.

I also noticed the zooming in WASM was really bad. native actually works well to Zoom. SO if you want to zoom in use that.

If you want to see the models drop them into https://gltf-viewer.donmccurdy.com/

And yes Balancing is probably way off due to me fighting the CI….

Developer

Side effects are based on the force you put into an upgrade and probably to weakly balanced for what people use commonly. If you use a force of 230 you get side effects though.

Cool game! Actually made it past through first wave only on my third try B)

The game looks pretty good, but it's difficult to get started. It's not at all obvious (or mentioned on the game page) that you move the camera with the keyboard and not the mouse. The mouse wheel zoom seems to be inverted and takes a lot of turns to get up close to your good looking assets.

I also miss some feedback (and a cool explosion and/or sound effect, but, hey, it's a jam prototype) when I kill one of these bad guys. I would very much like to see the amount of money it gets me without having to look away to the top right and do the calculation myself and missing some of the action.

game is crashing on windows for me.

Developer

Hmmm, then I’ll need to check the CI template. Looks like it produces borked bins. I know I needed to recompile linux.

Use the WASM build here https://toasterson.github.io/towerish-side-effects/
