Nice idea. I spent a lot of time to understand that z is used to proceed with dialogues, you should write it somewhere. The JRPG style is good overall, but it lacks a bit of strategy. Overall, nice job!
Took a lil bit to figure out that Z was the confirm button. Other than that, I like the battle mechanics.
