Question about game updates rule

In our game, I feel the Asteroid Spawn Timer might be set too high (1.5 seconds). If I wanted to change that timer in the game engine, create a new build, and update on Itch, would that be violating the submission rules? I really don't want to break a rule out of ignorance! This GameJam was a blast and I don't want to ruin it at the end.

Second question. Would it be taking it too far if I added a button to the game (Difficulty selector) that modified this Asteroid Spawn Timer?

What's the distinction here? My first question could be considered "Bug Fix: Asteroid Spawn Timer too low". The second feels like, maybe, a new feature. Again, I really don't know what the "right" thing to do is. Should I just leave the game as-is and not touch anything?

(If you post a link to your game I'll be happy to play it. I love discovering new games!)
