In what way does your game fit the theme?
You play as a character thet shoots spells towards hordes of enemies. You need to manage your spells, your positioning and even the placement of your mouse! You'll learn fast but it'll always be chaotic.

Did you write all the code yourself and made all the assets from scratch?
Apart from browsing the internet for solutions to some of the problems I've run into, all the code and art is mine! The music though was made by my mom.

Loved the music and art! Reminds me of older pixel games. I think you should make the green wand harder to find because I think it’s op. I had fun playing this game, great game!

Really nice game, i actually enjoyed the gameplay, once i got the green weapon i found no reason to pick the other colors, maybe yellow but still, great game.

Also the final enemy scared me, i didn't expect it to move that fast.

Man you are on your GRIND this game jam. I don't know why but I see your animated GIF pfp in the comments of so many jam submissions that I had to come check out what your game was all about. Good on you for rating and commenting on so many submissions.

As for Magic Mayhem, I liked it! It lagged a good bit for me, especially with 2+ other magic enemies, and the game was pretty dang hard, but overall I liked it. The graphics were clean, easy to read and fit the tone, the music slapped and was accompanied by some nice sound effects, and the particles added a good bit of juice to the spells.

I wish that the blue spell was more useful, it seemed like the least effective spell of the whole bunch, and that sucks because shotguns are usually my favorite in any game. I wish there were more spells to play around with as well, though I can understand keeping it to a short list to get a good level of polish on your MVP.

Overall a super solid little game, reminded me a bit of Realm of the Mad God and that's not a bad thing. Good stuff!

I could probably offer you some much needed closure... I have currently rated one hundred and eleven games. and it's currently two AM but as soon as I find time tomorrow I will play and rate yours as well!

As for your feedback, initially all the spells were way more toned down but I had to adjust and this threw them off balance a bit, definitely should've put more thought into that. The lag is a real problem, I hoped that building the game would fix it but on most pc's the performance is just awful, that's a total mistake on my side.

I'll let my mum know you liked her music and again thank you for taking the time to play and rate! And if you joined VimJam you might see more of my GIF pfp soon.

You've already entered another jam? You're crazy hahaha. Still it is an exciting prospect for that new jam..."Boss", huh? Maybe you might see my name in that jam too, just to compete with you! Good luck!

Developer

Thank you and good luck too! I am very excited to see what's gonna happen.

loved the music, i feel like the tempo could have been slightly faster to fit with the gameplay a little more, but it sounds incredible, along with the overall game. i wouldve liked a way to regenerate health (there might have been one and i might just be dumb) and there are a couple of rooms where you can kill everything without it getting agroed on you, but overall really well done, and i had a great time playing it

Developer

Glad that you liked it! The music was made by my mum btw, so I'll let her know.

Ther is a way to regenerate health, if you pick up a wand with the same colour as your spell, you regenerate, but I understand that thiat wasn't obvious. Thank you for playing and thank you for taking the time to rate!

Loved the music, mechanics and sfx’s! Good game!

The evil marshmallow ate me... Good job. :)

This was fun! The enemies had a bit too much health I think. The overall gameplay is really fun and the controls are responsive in a very satisfying way! The art is also really cool, and so is the menu. And your mom did a wonderful job on the music!! Well done!

That green wand is so satisfying haha. Nice entry!

This was really fun to play, I ran around a lot trying to find the last coin before entering boss room lol. Had a bug ( I think?) where the boss 'ate' me, and it looked like i was controlling the boss movement... but thats all i could do.

Developer

So... The boss is set to move towards the player. While the boss is eating you, the players position is set to be behind the boss. There might be some issues with that system that allows you to move around and the boss follows you while on top of you.

Anyway, thank's for taking the time to play!

One of the best game that I've played in the jams. Simple yet very polished. There's some dip in the FPS but hell, I still really enjoy this game!

Usually corners get cut left and right in game jams but you managed to have a really solid game at the end of it, the audio was nice, the screen transitions were slick, and I actually forgot I was playing it in browser (I did have fps slowdown with the green wand though lol). I'm not a big fan of top down shooter/bullet hells but I enjoyed this a lot!

Developer

If you would have seen my trello list for this game, you wouldn't talk so highly about cutting corners... But thankfully, you didn't so thank you for playing and thank you for taking the time to leave a response!

Hey that was fun! I think green was my favorite one to use. I kinda cheesed a few of the enemies by shooting them before they were triggered. Maybe give the bullets a time to live or have the enemies attack when shot? Regardless fun game.

Developer(+1)

That's actually a good idea!

I kinda was torn between, enemies flying in from ofscreen or being able to see them before they see you, I never thought about making them attack when attacked...

Great game

Dude love the game. I kinda struggled as I suck at games. But love the bullet hell concept and the dialogue system. Your game is so colourful and kawaii.

funny game, it's easy to play, good concept, i like a payer Sprite it's cool.

I really liked it! A lot of projectiles which make the game slow down a bit, but it adds to the chaos :). I liked that there are different kinds of wands that change up how you approach each room, but the green one seems a bit too strong. A very tough boss at the end is a really nice change of pace, as the same enemies over and over gets stale.

What I also noticed is the difference in the character sprites and the area. The walls are very detailed with a high resolution, but the characters are pixel art. That difference makes the visuals have less cohesion. That being said, it all looks very nice and cute on it's own. Also, the music is a bop. Big props to your mom for that one!

Overall, very nice game! Well done!

Developer(+1)

All you said was noted, but I'd like to reply to the graphics issue!

I actually didn't notice that before you pointed it out. I had actually made sure that all the sprites are created in 16x16, even though the game scales them up to 48x48 to make the edges appear more clearer...

Now, I guess the issue is not the pixel size, but the fact that I've createt the wall and floorpieces, to look kinda realistic and I used gradients and more dynamic shading than on the player sprites.

This is definitely something I will have to improve in future games as I really didn't notice that! Thanks for pointing it out.
