Nice game! I think it would be good to have the shooting upgrades respawn or be randomly spawned around the map because they are really necessary to get far into the game. Also, it was super easy to get trapped by the monsters. Maybe clustering the monster spawners tighter or spawning monsters less often would make it harder to get surrounded.
