Wow, the graphics are great, amazing work for a jam. And the game feel is good too, it's not just graphics, the sound, the screen shake, the particles, it all adds up.

Developer

Thanks for playing it and I'm glad you liked it! All the best!

Graphics, theme, and sound were on point! The eerie background music is a nice touch. Pretty tough on the difficulty, but the controls were nice and responsive. Great work!

Developer

Thank you very much for playing it and I'm glad you liked it! All the best!

Good graphics and it was fun. However, a bit glitchy. Great job! Come to see my game as well.

Developer

Thank you very much! I am happy that you liked it!

Daaaaaaammmmmnnnnn! This game is awesome! Love it! I can't believe you did that in a week. The particle effects/bloom/camera work, even the animations of walking back/forth with the gun.. everything. The only thing for me was I went through the teleporter to the lower platform, fought some enemies, and wasn't sure how to progress forward. Otherwise, excellent submission! Well done!

Developer(+1)

Thank you very much for playing it,I am happy that you liked it and reaching the last platform... that's where it ends. I apologize that there is nothing to announce that... All the best!

Particle effects, movements. sound, and overall graphics are top notch in my book. Quite liked the game and I think it is a great submission for a game jam.

Developer

Thank you very much for playing it and for the feedback! all the best!

okay first of all how did you even manage to put such great graphics into a jam submission goddamn, really great sound too, the movement felt nice, but a sprint button wouldve made it a bit better, great game overall!

Developer(+1)

Thank you very much for playing it and I will take your feedback into account! :) Have a nice day!

the radar item only seems a seems plot based, and only provides a visual and audio effect

I'm not sure if there is more content as after eliminating all of the enemies within the subspace area but after entering the second portal there isn't anything i couldn't see as a valid pathway and it doesn't exclaim itself as an end.

i don't know why lowering the browser window size, increases performance, but it works(my guess relates to pixels).

the weapon upgrades are nice with the slow single shot, fast but weak barrage, and shotgun.

the unlock for the barrage weapon's placement is nicely done as it makes the player ask the simple question of "how do i get there" and sure enough a platform with a long delay between point a to point b is present.

the enemies require a moving in battle as their fire rate, is for a fitting term, alien.

Developer

Thank you very much for playing it and for the feedback! On the 1st Level, if you look, when it reaches the portal, the camera is blocked. he was always looking at the portal. When you get out of range you can control the camera. In general, it has a narrative role rather than a logical one.

yes, unfortunately I didn't manage to put the cutscene there, basically after you eliminate all the aliens from the last platform, it ends... :)

Yes, it is specially made to reduce pixels when you shrink the window.

Thank you once again for the feedback! All the best!

Semi-on-the-fly remarks:
  1. Specific voice acting with actors? :) Also, I would advise putting subtitles.
  2. Using Firefox too: your screen resolution advice was excellent! :) I should apply it to other games, especially Unreal Engine ones that often lag.
  3. Graphics and music are very immersive.
  4. Controls are QWERTY-only instead of layout-independent (I have an AZERTY keyboard). Oh, actually, you enabled BOTH QWERTY and AZERTY at the same time!! PHEW! :D You should write it on the game page.
  5. (Since I see GamExplorer was stuck, adding this remark.) Maybe not obvious to go to the truck at the beginning? The dialogue hints at it, although not specifying where the navigator is, so maybe some cue would help. Such as some text: ‘OBJECTIVE: get your radar from the truck.’.
  6. Stuck in a small crater near the beginning!! <:o
  7. Camera moves according to the mouse; nice.
  8. Level 2: already a gun! I think allowing the player to collect it first, as for the device in the level 1 truck, would be great for narration/progression.
  9. Can you fall? YES. X)
  10. Ah, the self-regenerating health bar system. Seeing how much damage the first enemy dealt, all right.
  11. Wow, aiming at the thin black aliens is not easy!
    (Getting better at it.)
  12. The first moving platform makes somewhat long stops. Is it for it to be harder to detect?
  13. Ah, green bonus already replaced with a red one… I wish the first ‘hidden’ green weapon had served a bit more!
  14. Level 3. Oh, that was not level 3, merely an area of level 2!
  15. I had to pause the game for almost the whole afternoon, and clicking on ‘RESUME’, I get a crash with an error beginning with the following; I suspect some time counter got too high.
    ‘RuntimeError: invalid conversion to integer’
(Ah, seeing Alexandre Lacroix’s comment, this is apparently linked to merely clicking!! Nevertheless, this happened to me on Firefox, under (evil) Windows, on a laptop.)
  16. Having just played again from the beginning and stuck again, scoured the comments and found perscode’s question and your answer: so, the game does end there (the limited square platform). I strongly advise you to warn about this on the game page!! I was convinced I had missed something and was ready ton continue searching!

Takeaway: as others said, very impressive graphically; I also like the audio effects, especially the ‘transmitter voices’ at the beginning and the radar, and the first music mysterious track (it somehow reminds me a bit of Dark Colony and its dark suit soldiers). I wish there were more content and mechanics, but I guess you spent much time providing the whole graphic base. So, this should be seen as a short prototype for an action game, and I think it could be an interesting one if you explore the mysterious aspect, with phases where you have to find objects, or even do some thinking, about which way to take, for example. As Kefiiir said, the health mechanic is to be precisely weighed; this issue of health handling with self-regeneration instead of health packs has been around since at least Halo, and I think it has an important impact on how you must design fighting and levels.

I also thought the link to the theme is fair, although classic; and I think the overall concept is for now classic, but (as stated above) could go in interesting directions depending on what you add, but I understand you apparently favoured the finish (which is a lot of work here, apparently!) over adding other content.

Thank you for the game; this may not be what you expected and probably depends on players (I see CodeRaurus thought it was ‘tedious’; which I can understand but could be solved by adding some interesting search gameplay or even dangers!), but the most charming to me was the very first part exploring with a radar on the Martian soil. :) Maybe because it ironically gives you a lonely feeling (!), and perhaps from Dark Colony. ;)

Wow, what are you, a writer/journalist, by profession? :) Ok...I don't know how to start, good that you helped me with the enumerations. First of all, I want to thank you for the time given to the game and the review. Much more than expected.

1. Surprise, surprise. is Voice generated. Text To Voice. :D, edited in Audacity, adding noises and radio effects, etc (a lot of time for nothing) :)) But significant for me.

2. Firefox is the best from my point of view. (tested all common, famous browsers) It has good hardware acceleration. usually already open. If not, you have to do it.

-Thank you for finding a glitch for me. I will solve it in the meantime. :)

-For the weapon, I wanted it to be already in the back from the first phase. in the second phase, just make the animation and take it out. But, TIME. Like the simple cubes, they had to be replaced with detailed ones...but TIME.

The camera should rotate in the second level to have a better view of the enemies...but, TIME. I had to have animations, more complex effects, but you guessed it, TIME. :)))

Not last, I had to make a small final cutscene, after you kill all the aliens on the last platform... and I forgot to activate it. I was dust. Have worked from 9 in the morning and it was already 6 in the morning of the next day and the last one of the Jam, with a lot of things I had to complete. I was a zombie. I had to stop and accept the compromise of publishing it as it was.

Final. Yes, Art is subjective. You may like one side and another person may not. Thanks again for the review and time! P.S.I don't think I will ever be able to do a review like this. lol

Sorry if I missed something...

I wish you all the best!

Finally coming back here, I still have many comments to check (and things to sort out!!), sorry for the delay. XD Thank you for your detailed answer!

Wow, what are you, a writer/journalist, by profession? :)

I am a nerd. XD Some of them prowl around these places!

Voice generated. Text To Voice. :D, edited in Audacity, adding noises and radio effects, etc (a lot of time for nothing) :)) But significant for me.
Wow, impressive! I also tend to lose time on details, but I am getting better at not to. X) Still, I loved these voices, so it was not lost on everybody. :)

I forgot to activate it.

OH NO!! <:o

Have worked from 9 in the morning and it was already 6 in the morning of the next day and the last one of the Jam, with a lot of things I had to complete. I was a zombie.

I was in a somewhat similar condition after several sleepness nights for my second game jam, which was my first supposedly short one. XD I feel for you!

P.S.I don't think I will ever be able to do a review like this. lol
I noticed the comments of yours I stumbled upon were quite concise. ;) Never say never, though: a few game jams ago (I think this was for GMTK 2022), I started by writing detailed reviews, then I switched to on-the-fly observations towards the end of the voting period out of rushing, and since people were still happy with it (it is like a written playthrough!), I kept that style. :) Writing more or less on the fly is easier and faster, and you just check a bit at the end if you have time, and possibly add a conclusion, partially guided by the criteria. I am quite slow, and I am sure most people could take notes way faster than I do.

Good luck enchancing the game and in your projects! :)

When I started playing and saw the high quality rocks I thought "oh what nice assets they bought there, must have been expensive" but then I read you did those yourself. Awesome!

Unfortunately, the game kept crashing after a couple of enemies/platforms. Also, I found the scan-part too long.

The visual effect of the level entry was... next level! The gameplay was solid and fun.

Game looks amazing and feels great too. Nice polish with visuals and audio for the gun-play make it feel juicy and satisfying.

Performance was actually fine on my machine with only slight dips at expected moments, i.e. first time you shoot.

Graphically, only very minor critiques (that in no way detract from 5/5 the score) would be the footstep particle effect displaying above the character when walking towards the camera and perhaps the cube motif doesn't perfectly fit with the rest of the aesthetic.

Audio, like the rest of the game, was excellent.

Really great entry, well done!

Developer

Thank you very much for playing it. Yes, I know and I'm sorry that I left the particles like that. Everything will change with the next update. :) the cubes will undoubtedly be replaced. Thank you very much for the time and feedback! All the best!

The atmosphere and music in the first part is great!

The gunplay and camera shake feel solid and nice.

Unfortunately it crashed a few times - I believe when I went from full screen to normal mode, or when pressing escape, not sure. Wish there was a downloadable version so I could experience the whole thing. Overall though I enjoyed the experience!

I'll be honest, on my browser this game tanks and runs at 3 fps lol. But the audio worked completely fine and the graphics were very nice. So from what little I could play, it was great!

Thank you very much for trying it! :)

The graphics are really good. The life restoration feels little bit too op so it made the combat not so challenging, but I still enjoyed it a lot.

Incredible for a week

Pros:

Good number of enemies

Great effects

Very fluid and fun gameplay

Excellent 3d models

Cons:

slightly annoying audio at times

I would have slightly improved the death menu

Ultimately this is for sure among the best games I've tried in this jam, congratulations!

Developer

Thank you very much for playing it and I'm happy that you like it :) I will take the feedback into account! All the best!

Wow amazing!! Can't believe this runs in a browser, looks like UE4 renders. Way to get all this art done in time for the jam, just incredible.

Developer

Thank you very much. Yes, it can also be done in Unity. It's real..not "Unreal" :)
