Well, it doesn't have to be meaningful, but for the reader's sake I would recommend it taking itself somewhat serious. But if you mean funny, then that's completely fine.
finding a treasure map and following it would you call going into a well to a land of goblins trying to ambush a cat saving it to see it had a box of beans be serious?
