i didn't really understand the game

Developer

Thanks for having a look.

The aim of the game at the moment is to hunt creatures and harvest resources to be able to craft items to be able to hunt creatures and harvest resources.

The game is set up so that you can craft items at the crafting table, eat at the dining table, interact with objects, and enter/exit maps.

If you didn't read the intro you might have missed the controls.

I had planned on a more explanatory tutorial but due to the scope and the time I was unable to fit this in.

I really like the game idea with orcs and poison! One thing I would do is add a better font since it's a bit hard to read. Maybe some images, too! You could try the Minecraft font, you can find it on Google and download it. I think it looks similar to the one I used in my game. But overall, the game is great, and the pixel art looks awesome I love it!

Thank you for the feedback.

The font is a stop gap, with so much else to do I didn't have time in the end to really look for an appropriate font, I thought I already one somewhere but couldn't find it in the end.

I'm glad you like the game though.

The game is really cool! Having to collect resources and eliminate enemies to craft the necessary items is very well done. The mechanics are very interesting, great job!

Thanks for giving it a go.

It was a busy week and for me, a survival game needs an element of exploration and crafting.  I'd have liked for the experience to be a bit smoother, but I was glad to get it working.

This is a really nice concept for a game!  Huge scope for a game jam but I am very impressed with what you have put together in a week! This is a really good blueprint to build on - nice job!

Developer(+1)

Thank you.

I knew it would be a big scope, but with some of the mechanics I wanted to play with I knew I couldn't do it without including some variety.

It didn't quite work out as I would have liked, but I was able to learn a lot from doing it.

Two words: don't stop, I see potential. Make your efforts worth it.

Developer

For the sake of the jam I wanted to include a couple of villagers you could trade with for a random item or random food, as well as a few throwable items.  I still want to include these but I now want to include more of the world and maybe a story as well.

Thank you playing.

The potential is within you, don’t let it fade.

Developer

Part of my reason for doing things like this is to try to use that potential and do it my way.  After trying the "normal" way, office, travel and the like, and ending up saying "thank you have a nice day" a lot, the saying of if you want something done right ... then do it yourself came to mind.

Still got a day job, but forever hoping one day I won't need it anymore.

This is an incredibly ambitious game! I love zelda-like feel of the game, I'd love to see this further develop
Great job!

Developer

When I was making it I wasn't even thinking about Zelda games or the like, but I see what you mean.  The Ocarina of Time was one of my favourite games growing up, and when I think of making an RPG style game, for me it's always got to have flexible choices on where to go and what to do.  Not necessarily hundreds of side quests or missions, but the freedom to do things out of order and explore the world.

Thanks for playing and the feedback.

I liked the idea of your game, I hope you can implement all your ideas, good luck with the game jam.

Developer(+1)

Thank you for playing.  There is more I would like to add into the game if I get the chance.  I think this one is pretty good foundation for something a bit bigger, but if do continue with this one I will need to refine my understanding of the engine in areas, most notably load orders and tracking when assets are available for use.

The graphics and music are amazing! I cannot believe you did it solo, such an ambitious project! The gameplay is good but a bit slow for me :((

Thanks for the feedback.  I've been off this week so I had the time to put into it.  Even still, this week has been a week of pure psychotic focus, even forgetting to eat for most of the day, about 80+ hours spent on it.  I was initially a bit disappointed that I wasn't able to get everything I wanted into it, I still need to learn some of the nuances of the Godot engine and it slowed me down a bit towards the end.  Most of the coding was done with a focus on particular components, building the mechanics and blueprints first and then tying it all together.

I probably should have added the tag "Casual", but it was nearly 5AM here when I uploaded it before the deadline.

I also really appreciate your comment on the music, I did a few jams last year and the music was the main thing I felt was holding me back, I'm still learning and the pieces I used were adaptions of some earlier pieces I've been experimenting with over the last month or two.  They were made using the BBC Symphony Orchestra VST plugin and LMMS, both free to use.

Wow, seriously impressive scope for a 1 week game jam. This game is great, I didn't have enough time to experience all of it though! Awesome job!

Developer

Thank you for having a look.

It was a pretty big scope, and even after trying to contain the scale of it, I still had to leave out a few things and leave some minor bugs alone for now.  It was fun to do but it has been a long week trying to make it fit.  I included more than a few things I hadn't tried before.  The kicker is that those bits worked pretty much as designed straight away, the supposedly simpler things are where I found the most headaches with the complexity of everything overall increasing loading times meaning it was taking longer for various pieces to load in or be removed creating null value errors.
