I completed the game (in normal mode).

This was super fun, I liked everything about the game. I love the comic style2D part of the visuals and the view is good and the environment and enemies look good enough. The sound effects work pretty well. The game plays smooth and controls well, movement feels good and the inventory and combat control are perfect. Not only the Void part is a good implementation of the Cosmic horror theme, it's also super fun to deal with, especially as you reach the last levels and staying inside it will get you harassed by eyes monsters so you don't want to (but also want to of course). I really liked that the exit was just behind me, that was great at all and also a great conclusion to a narrative based on an endless cycle. Combat is plenty based on resource management and especially limited use weapons including some dealing with multiple enemies at once if they're here which is quite fun.

I briefly tried Challenge mode because the game is so fun, died on cycle 1005 (I think you then restart from the first level but with all your items or something like that, I'm not even certain and am just mentioning it in case it's true and you're not aware, it does not really matter).

Sometimes I want to enter the Void mode but open the menu instead, not sure what I'm exactly doing wrong. Also enemies can occasionally end up on the same time as the player. These are very minor laments, the game is quite polished overall.

This is an excellent entry, thanks for sharing.

I got out! That was a hard game to master.

I was going to give up after I was being wiped out again and again from same eye monsters, but kept going. And I think I started to get the hang of how the game was supposed to be played. That last corridor was long.

Combat was good but hard because mostly of the menu system. Having player repopulate the JKL items for every cycle made it tedious. Also using items during combat was hard because you have your hands on WASD and JKL and have to click with mouse and then back again.

Otherwice, once you get the hang of the core game loop it is rather fun to play. But I think I played it way longer than I had to due to me not understanding the task.

Nice Game!

What an interesting idea with the phasing through the purple walls and the sneaking. While the graphics seem a bit basic, they are hand crafted, which is cool! The movement itself is fine enough, but I could not really find a use for the sneaking and I had problems with enemies walking into my spot and then I could not attack them anymore. Clicking on attacks was very unreliable for me, using the keyboard worked much better. But you implemented so many things here, that is very impressive.

Nice mechanics! You have a lot of gameplay stuff coming together with the attack cooldowns, limited-use weapons, sanity system, etc.

I think the timing effect on sanity might rush things too much, I tend to want to spam attacks and run for it; stealth seems unreliable given that it makes you slower. The nature of loops, deaths, and repeated tries also encourages suicidal rushes a bit.

Initially I was going to say I would rather be able to click the three attack buttons than use JKL as I need the mouse for inventory anyway. But it looks like you can, it’s just a bit inconsistent/unresponsive, maybe because it triggers on release of the button rather than on press?

This was fun!

I enjoyed the implementation of looping and being stuck with no real way out. Even after escaping into the light you still loop back when you press play again anyway.

I think the UI was the weakest point here as in my opinion it was a little too big on the screen which meant I couldn't see much of the tile I was on leading to me getting a bit lost at times and you can't see health/sanity in the inventory.

Sound design was very good for instilling fear as you can hear the enemies stomping around you. I didn't use stealth much as it was a little hard to pull off with the movement system and a lot of enemies would just be blocking the path anyway.

Balancing health/sanity with the items was an interesting mechanic and I like that you had to use consumables to get stronger rather than traditionally gaining permanent power.

Nice work! You even managed to get a bestiary in there. My only comments:

  • Sometimes you couldn't see the enemy health bar because it appeared behind the exclamation point balloon.
  • It wasn't always obvious to me when I had completed the transition from/to void mode. Some stronger visual or audio feedback might have helped me.
  • I would have liked to be able to see your health and sanity bar from the inventory screen, so I can see the effects of consuming health/sanity recharge items.

There's quite a bit to the mechanics.
The only one that I couldn't find many uses for was the stealth crouch.

There's a bit of an annoying bug where enemies clip into you.
And one time I confused the spawning campfire with the end level camp fire.

Other than that, pretty great.
I'll post my playthrough when it's up.

Didn't get to the end, but played a fair bit. Some very nice mechanics and concepts implemented here: the weapon usage, the void mode, stealth. Very well done, this is above average in its originality!

Nice game :). I like void mode idea and card-items.

Weapons hotkey resets after every level so it was a little bit bothersome to equip it anew.

Cool game. It is a very good take on the endless/infinity theme, had me thinking it was really endless. The variety of items is also nice.

I really enjoyed this game and it had me playing for a while! It has some interesting mechanics. I'm impressed that it comes with a tutorial and a bestiary! Well done :)

Also, solid implementation of themes :)
