Extraneous information?

The premise I'm working with is a game told from one side of a personal computer terminal sending letters to a pen pal, and I was wondering if adding extraneous diagetic bits of writing like news reports and schedules for upcoming events would still be in the spirit of the jam.  The game starts up on a login screen with these as options, but not the meat of the story itself, just extra bits of drabble

Hi there!

A extra information would be okay if it serves the same in-narrative purpose as a dialogue tag/stage instruction/diary entry/etc and is kept to a minimum, with the overall focus on dialogue. So as long the non-dialogue text is framed as a form of communication within the game (i.e. text message, letter, newspaper article, etc.), that would be allowed, but not straight descriptive or information-declaring prose.
