Very interesting and original game! I loved the experience learning the tricks to progress, and its art style, sfx and music blended very well with the gameplay. I has a lot of potential from the first stages i played in my stream. Keep the good work!

One of the most unique and fun games on the jam.
Great presentation, art is nice and the gameplay is tight. Difficulty is the core of the game, and I really enjoyed it.
Need some fine-tuning here and there, but not that much to make it work.

Fermatina has some serious legs and could be a sleeper hit. Recommended.

Jam Host

Hello! Welcome to Feedback Quest 7! My name's Hythrain and I'm one of the hosts and one of the streamers for this event! This feedback is being written live as I stream your game! If you're interested in seeing my live reaction, let me know and I can send you a link to the VOD once it's posted to YouTube!

So my normal approach for any game in these events is simple: I get the game, make sure it's not a virus, then play it with as little information on how to play as possible. This way, I can judge how intuitively someone can figure out the game. Only if it's obvious that I need to read more will I do so. I note this so you can get a sense where some of these feedback comes from. In addition, I want to note that feedback and rating are different; don't use this feedback to gauge what I'll rate, nor should you view my rating as entirely indicative of my feedback.

To start, I appreciate the notice that this is a hard game. I kept this knowledge in mind as I played through, going quite a while at 100% speed before dropping it down to 50%. When I got to a point where I felt stuck, I restarted and used my knowledge to play better, where I started getting those portal things! Woo! However, it's when I returned to where I got stuck that any issues I would have with the game began. The first of these was the mechanic of the hookshot to let you wind it around corners. This, to me, just felt like utter BS. I don't mean in terms of it working, but rather just the mechanic itself. Having to involve my mouse far more, when I'm already needing to do a lot of things with my mouse, just got tedious and annoying really fast. Yet shortly after this was when my issue with the mechanic really came out as I hit a narrow gap I'm supposed to get the hookshot through in order to lift myself up. Even at 50% speed, it felt outright impossible to do.

If the mechanic for going around corners could be improved in a way that feels more fair to the player, I'd be fine with it. I'd also argue it needs to be very specifically taught, as it's the sort of thing that a player wouldn't intuitively think of unless they accidentally stumbled upon it earlier.

The intro, setting and music are done very well. Even in monchrome, there's a really good feel. The physics of hooking and moving is satisfying. I found the Game Speed setting UI a bit unnatural and difficult to manipulate.

Found the levels super challenging, even at 90% speed. Changing chain setting to "Click To Toggle" made it somewhat easier, and I was able to go farther. Felt really good to get the hang of hooking based movement.

Got upto this point so far.

Good game overall. Wish you the best!

Thank you for playing! How would you suggest changing the game speed to be more intuitive? (I basically just stole the idea from Celeste, and they probably did it well since Celeste is a good game)

Thank you for reassuring me that the game is very hard, that is my intent :D and that the "click to toggle" mechanic is actually helpful. The point you're at is around 20%ish of the first level, so it's good to know there's enough gameplay in here.

Ah I see. I haven't played Celeste. But maybe something like a slider would work for game speed? Now after reading hythrain's feedback I saw the speed can even go down to 50%, something I didn't realize earlier.

I'm not much into platforming, so maybe factor that in. But overall I did feel there was good effort into the level design, and probably skilled players would enjoy more.

I see what made you confused: the game speed is a slider, the way it works is that you click on the option and drag your mouse left or right to change it. I was just being lazy, to be perfectly honest. Time to get around to improving that, I guess.

I like the characters and their animations are well done and very fluid.

Developer(+1)

Thank you, I guess, but this strikes me as odd given the existence of only one singular character in the whole game. I have my suspicions :)

I was referring to the designs in general because they are all well made.
