How long has this Project been going?
The project is up, on-off, for about 4 years now - with the final form, written with DOS in mind, for the last year or so.

The previous version, using Offscreen OpenGL Mesa renderer has proven to be too slow for 486s, so since last december, I began writing a custom renderer.

great pixel art!

this is very fun! The pixel art is cool which remind me to the good old day where  I addicted to my GameBoy RPG game😊

Developer

To be fair, the art was taken from the open source roguelike Stone Soup and is Creative Commons - so anybody can use it.

Thanks for playing :)

That was cool, just needed Dosbox. Too bad it was missing audio.
Why can't spacebar do the expected thing? (like attack if it's an enemy, pick it up if it's an item) I killed rope (-10000 damage) when I forgot it was another key.

Good point...I've been thinking about unifying the controls, but I'm also afraid it would make the game too simplistic, taking agency out of the player. Wouldn't it? It's a simple game, but maybe that would make it way too simple? Not sure on that.

In regards to the rope, you're supposed to cut the ropes to activate the mechanisms preventing your progress. It's simple puzzle, but the engine I wrote didn't predict much in the way of puzzles. Maybe an expanded version will have better ones.

For audio, you will need a OLP2LPT - http://www.serdashop.com/OPL2LPT; I'm working already on also supporting Covox Speech Thing clones (like the CVX4: www.serdashop.com/CVX4), but that will have to wait. At one point, there was PC Speaker audio, but it was annoying, so I took out - it might come back tho. I actually bought a Sound Blaster compatible card solely for the purpose of supporting it, only to discover my Desktop doesn't have a PCI slot (facepalm).

Thanks for the feedback!
(Disclaimer: I have sort of a "partnership" with Serdaco; but would support it regardless, since I want new and fresh stuff coming out of the retro community)

It's alright if you can't attack things you can pick up. I just assumed I'd have to use that rope.

Didn't think about like that, but that could be another interesting class of puzzles in itself! Like pulling a rope to make gears skip to the next cog. Could be interesting because it would add another layer to every puzzle already based on ropes.

Thank you very much!

dos?....DOS! I-I am impressed, Wow, this is awesome.

Where can I download this?

Developer

Still putting final pixels in place ;-)

Hopefully, by the weekend, it will be done. I would love to improve my support for OPL2LPT and PC Speaker. It's too flaky right now.

Developer

I've released a beta - but I still want to improve it. Anyway, hope you like it.
