Interesting idea, I'd say the biggest failing is you move too fast.

Developer

Thanks! I decided to make the player fast, because it made it more challenging but I'm now seeing that I was wrong

Submitted

It's not too bad overall, maybe start off slow and speed up over time.

Developer

You do speed up as you collect stars, but you do start out really fast!

Congrats for finishing the game for the jam. I liked the bailout mechanic - which kept me alive for much longer than I deserved to live. Somehow the music is stuck in my head now!

Developer

Thanks so much! This is my first time making all the assets, which is why I wasn't able to get sound effects or good music! The music does get stuck in your head!

The game was pretty fun. Being able to recover when you fell into the water was a nice touch and the recovery animation was cool.  I do think that the addition of some more feedback for shooting and collecting stars such as sound effects or particles would have been good to add extra polish. Overall though I enjoyed it and it's good considering the time constraints of the jam!

Thanks so much! I really wanted to add sound effects, but I have no idea how to make them :(   I also really wish I added a little explosion particle effect when you collected a  star too! I'm sadly only 1 person, who is mostly a programmer so making the art and music (which I'm horrible at) is all new to me! I'm gonna try to watch so youtube videos on how to do some of that.

Yea I understand, I'm a programmer to so making anything more than basic art and particles is difficult for me too. As far as sounds go I just ended up using a tool to generate some as I don't really know anything about creating sounds from scratch. Suppose you will improve each jam though. Hopefully see some more from you in future jams!!

Developer

Thanks! What tool did you use? Hope to see you in future jams too! I really want to do another GDN one

I think I used Chiptone although BFXR is another similar tool, they're good for making simple placeholder sounds so pretty handy for jams.

Nice animations! Spiraling into the water looked cool and flying out of the water again looked cool with how you sped across the screen with the nice exhaust trail. Game seemed a bit too fast; like I felt I couldn't kill the asteroids fast enough and would just crash into them.

Developer

Thanks for playing! I made the game this fast, because I wanted it to be a bit more challenging, it is much easier to kill asteroids if you hit it with both bullets when you fire, but that requires you too position yourself directly in front of it. I think I could make you a little bit slower. I also love how to animations turned out! It was really fun making them :D

the music hurt my ears but the game is good

Developer

Yeah, sadly I didnt have much time to spend on music or sound effects, as I'm just 1 person. I also had no idea how to make sound effects :( Do you have any suggestions (btw there is a mute button so you can play in peace)

I was also alone ;) I also missed dmuch time for music so I used http://tones.wolfram.com/

Developer

Wow! I wish I knew about that site sooner! Thanks for telling me, I'll probably use it next jam

you're welcome :)

If you're looking for something more manual and chiptune-y, I also recommend beepbox.co

Developer

Thanks, that could definitely be helpful!

Great job on this! I particularly enjoyed the part where you could save your ship using QTEs. The rest played as expected. Some more visual/audio feedback would really kick this up a notch!

Developer

I'm not really good at any asset stuff, and especially not at music. I planed to make sound effects, but I ran out of time, and I have no idea how I could make a laser shooting sound effect... Thanks for playing!

Nice job.  Did you do this all by yourself?

Developer (1 edit) (+1)

Yes, I did everything myself, except my friend made the ship sprite when you are flying and collecting stars. Thanks so much for playing and commenting! :D (I'm 13 by the way)
