Absolutely spectacular, this might be the top entry of the game jam in my mind (at least from what I've played so far). The setting, music/sounds, art style and story all fit perfectly together! The dialogue is very well written, the characters have their charm, everything is just amazing. I really hope you keep working on this, and get it on steam in full release!

10/10

Can only second what was already praised by the others.

Some feedback, as I saw in one  of your comments, you are planning to keep working on the game (all thumbs up for this). I hope I do not spoil anything with that:

  • I didn't keep the intended order, so when I got the last fish, dialog said I found the first one
  • mhm... without spoiling, hard. I was looking at this metal thingy, but  somehow I must have looked again, because the dialog option needed to get the merchant quest done wasn't offered (I had to check your guide for this one, to figure out that I must have made something unexpected)
  • The normal walking speed felt far too slow, so I kept running all the time.   I think this can be the normal walking speed, the "slow mode" might make sense in certain situations when the character approaches another character, maybe

That's it. Can't think of any other advice - your game is fantastic! Great job!

Thanks for the feedback! I'll keep all this in mind for the next update. :)

Regarding your first point that's definitely an oversight on my part, since you're meant to be able to complete the puzzles in any order you want. Must've missed a variable somewhere haha.

If I could give six stars to the graphics, I would because this game is SO PRETTY

Okay but besides that, the game had me hooked with its distinct world, characters, dialogue, and overall atmosphere, and I enjoyed having to piece everything together using your inventory. Maybe not everyone will like how slow it is at times, but I would still call this a GDM masterpiece.

This was excellent. The art look familiar but I can't quite place how. What were your inspirations?

Regardless I would love to see more. Do you have any thoughts of expanding this game?

Thank you! I really think my foremost inspiration for this game has been the Moomin books. Some games that have also been super influential are Grim Fandango and Tiny Echo.

Currently we're mainly planning to polish and tweak the game based on player feedback, as well as adding more audio and visual elements that we didn't have time to implement. Though I would also love to return to this setting with a full-fledged sequel... :)

The atmosphere created by the art and the music is fantastic. I like all of the character designs, and the details like the fish merchants eyes blinking independently.

Art direction and atmosphere are inspired. Would love to see a full game of this!
