I got a chance to play this, I really like the style! It reminds me of NES games. character design is also really good, Cuadrado is a lovable little cube. I liked the air control of the jump so I get what you are saying about wanting to hold onto that even if you change the jump in other ways. the colliders around the spikes seemed to register a hit with my character early so sometimes it felt like they were getting me early, but that could be the animation playing tricks on me. Overall, really like what you've got here and eager to see where you go with it, let's keep developing these and make them even better!

Developer(+1)

Hey nsubordin81, thanks for playing my game. And I’m glad you enjoyed it as well! The spike collision is something I would like to improve, it’s currently a (smaller) box around the object. However, that makes it a bit less forgiving with the space on the side.

Thanks again for the feebdack!

Cool! I'm a fan, keep it up, I'll keep going too and we'll make some great games.

Good job with the level design. The amount of time given and the level of difficulty seems reasonable. But, personally, I'm not a big fan of having too long levels in this format. I think the 30-45 seconds timeframe (level 1 and 2) works extremely well, though! It was fun replaying those levels, trying to avoid making errors in order to make it in time!
If all the levels were 45 seconds or less, I think I would have liked the game even more :)

Developer

I think this kind of platformer suits a “short run” styled level. Most of the original ideas had them short, but with more variations. I didn’t have that much time to code the dynamic parts of the level so I decided to make the last two more interesting.

I do want to add an tutorial as well. They will act as shorter levels with quick pay offs, and give players confidence and practice for the harder ones. I’m also thinking about zooming out. I think those changes would give a better feeling of “I just need to get to the door in this room”.

It’s good to know an actual range that’s ideal - thanks for this feedback!

Hey, fun little game. I liked the map designs but it felt a little stale. Maybe having some enemies or something to challenge other than the spikes would have been nice. Also the jump audio became very annoying after a while, because you have to jump so much and the game had no background music. I think with those changes, this game would be even better !

Developer

Hey Sulaiman96, thanks for playing! Yep yep, I wasn’t thinking enemies per se, I kinda like the “lab environment” setting. However, at the very least I wanted to add some lasers. The levels are missing something dynamic obstacles, so I’m working on that bit for the next update :-).

The music will definitely get some TLC. I didn’t put much time into it, and it’s the area of game dev I know least. If I’m lucky one of my friends who’s pretty good in that department would help out.

Thanks for the feedback!

Overall nice game, was very enjoyable :)

I've a few suggestions. The world seems a bit empty, it would be cool to see some clouds floating around or other background features like trees. The jump audio feels a bit sharp and gets a bit unpleasant over time since you have to jump a lot this game!

Developer

I’m glad you enjoyed it LiteTJ!

And thanks for the feedback! This may sound weird, but I had lots of trouble getting a suitable background lol. I felt a scientific testing lab like atmosphere would work but went back and forth on it a good bit. I think in the last few hours I changed it to a subtle grey. I’m glad you mentioned it again because I definitely should improve on that.

Sounds as well, I’d probably for a softer jumping sound and generally add effects and music.

If you got other feedback let me know! In any case, thanks again

the game is amazing, with cuteness atmosphere, great work

Developer(+1)

Much appreciated Mostafa! I’m pretty motivated to make it better

Developer

By chance, any possibility for your game to have a Mac/web version?

Submitted

sorry i can't

Developer

No worries. It’s hard out here when you don’t got a PC lol

Good job

¡Muchas gracias!

It's a simple game which I like!

Some things that you could search and implement here:

  • the jump is too floaty, there are a lot of videos on that regard to fix it
  • coyote jump
  • make the respawn faster to soften frustration and get back to action faster
  • door seems a bit off by only having the trigger on the floor
  • level design: make it a little more interesting. Think about the height of the jump and plan them based on that. It felt bad to almost jump for two blocks but not been able because it didn't  reach the height.

Hey Guilherme, thanks for playing and for the feedback! I’ve been getting a lot of different feelings about the jumping - it’s actually quite hard to pick out common pain points! I liked the floaty jump when coding it - kind of made it whimsical haha. I also thought it made some of the levels more forgiveable. I couldn’t get all my level designs in but the float and direction changes makes sure it’s not Celeste XD.

I really like the other points as well. I’m planning to work on it more so I can have all the levels I wanted and a tutorial, can’t thank you enough for the feedback!

P.S. I’m super hyped to play your entry, it looks awesome.

Hahaha, that's cool! I totally understand it and if you choose to keep it. I just find that it makes the game a bit slower this way, but if it's your design choice go for it! :D

That's really nice to hear! Keep me updated on it, I'm curious about how it'll grow! o/

Oooh, thank you!! :)))) I'd love to see your thoughts about it!

Developer(+1)

Funnily enough a few of my friends at home played it today. They’re usually blunt about everything in life haha, so I asked them about the jumping. While there’s no standard remedy, I think the floatyness doesn’t match most people’s expecations. I’ll experiment with shorter jump times, and probably stronger gravity. I’m not super tied to it, especially if it’d make more players enjoy the game :-)

Thanks again for the feedback!

This shall have been a great experience huh? I love watching people play my game, can't describe the feeling hahaha.

These are good friends to have! Some liked and others did not? Yeah, experiment with it and ask the to try again, maybe that way it'll convey to one side. Keep me updated o/

Oh and I'm still waiting your feedback on mine :(

Developer(+1)

Seeing people play your game is the best feeling there is!

It took me a while but I finally got to your game and quite a few others today. I really liked it :-). Challenging but rewarding

It surely is!

Thanks man, glad you liked it o/

Cute game, found the jump a little weird, as if the character was really heavy and it took a while to make it jump and maybe that was the idea. In general it was really enjoyable. Nice work!

Developer(+1)

Thanks for playing! As I guess with platformers like this, a lot of the feedback concerns jumping. One thing I’ll tweak a bit more as I work on it is the accelaration of the characters. I made the jumping a bit “floaty” more to give players a fairer chance of completing it. But I think the accelaration would add that bit more to how it feels taking off, moving around and of course stopping.

Really appreciated the feedback!

A very simple platformer. Not a bad game.

Developer

Thanks!

Neat little platformer! The jumping sound was cute at first but then got a bit annoying :D  Time also made it more challenging, I liked it

Developer

Haha, thanks for the feedback! After a week of getting caught up I probably had 1 hour and a half for sound. The first jumping noise was horrendous but ideally I’ll make/find something with a softer tone. I’m glad you liked it!

Cute game! Not the most original but works very well. A full screen button would have been nice though.

Developer

Thanks for playing! It’s definitely meant to simple fun and I’m glad you got some of that. I’ll be working on this game some more after the jam so I’ll happily put that in
