Setting engine metadata

Itch has an option to set metadata for your projects (games, assets don't matter what) but it is almost hidden. Sometimes even creators that have much projects don't know how to set it.

You can set what engines and tools you used in project by following the next steps: "Edit game -> Metadata -> Engines & tools"

If your game open-source you also can set it in metadata by following the next steps: "Edit game -> Metadata -> Release info -> License for code". Also you can add the link to the source code: "Edit game -> Metadata -> External links"

The metadata will be visible on your game page if you will click on "More info". Also it will slightly increase your audience because your project will appear on pages of the selected license and used tools and engines.

P.S If you think that it was useful for you, you can leave a comment here to support my proposal about making metadata more visible for those who are interested in it https://itch.io/t/2919128/metadata-encouragement#post-7952450

Thanks a lot! We unfortunately are aware of the lack of functionality on Itch.io to properly populate metadata. We handle this by adding some additional mandatory fields to fill in when submitting the entries.

If you are interested please check our project Homebrew Hub - we’re building an open digital repository providing accurate metadata and emulating capabilities for homebrew software - and we’re currently working on the new draft of the Game metadata schema ;) If you’re interested in contributing feel free to hit me up on the gbdev discord (or @avivace).

Is the HH only for GB games?

GB, GBC and GBA are the officially maintained datasets for the time being, but we do plan to support more platforms (e.g. NES entries are in theory already possible, we just didn’t start build a dataset yet)
