The results will be announced on https://gbdev.io/gbcompo23.html

I will also update that page with a tentative timeline of the validation + judging phase, but expect at least a couple of months

Just updated it with a lot of missing entries, your ROM should be there ;)

Email the itch.io link of your entry

A ZIP file with all the ROMS can already be found at https://github.com/gbdev/gbcompo23 . Direct link: https://github.com/gbdev/gbcompo23/archive/refs/heads/master.zip

Sources (where available), screenshots and additional metadata will be added later.

Can you email gbcompo (at) gbdev.io ?

Solved!

Hey, sure you can still submit, and actually be eligible to prize, just beware that one fundamental part of the ranking is the “interpretation of theme”, which if absent will award 0 point (but just in that category, the rest are ranked as normal).

GB, GBC and GBA are the officially maintained datasets for the time being, but we do plan to support more platforms (e.g. NES entries are in theory already possible, we just didn’t start build a dataset yet)

Thanks a lot! We unfortunately are aware of the lack of functionality on Itch.io to properly populate metadata. We handle this by adding some additional mandatory fields to fill in when submitting the entries.

If you are interested please check our project Homebrew Hub - we’re building an open digital repository providing accurate metadata and emulating capabilities for homebrew software - and we’re currently working on the new draft of the Game metadata schema ;) If you’re interested in contributing feel free to hit me up on the gbdev discord (or @avivace).

Hey, we never claimed to have any right on your submissions :) The rule was there to ensure that people knew that the “compo build” of the game needed to be set as free download and will be included in the compo compilation “zips”. You’re free to commercialize it :) Good luck and ping us when you have something done, we can reshare it on https://twitter.com/gbdev0

Hey! We may have some plans for the future..

Follow https://twitter.com/gbdev0, we will announce there our next initatives.

We got it!

We still can’t see the ROM, can you add it for the entry to be valid for the gbcompo21?

Thanks for understanding!

Yes, music cartridges are judged for the songs. If, for example, one would want to add interactive visualisations to it, it’d be a demo.

You can enter with as many submissions you want, so one entry alone and another in team is perfectly acceptable.

Looking forward to see what you’ll develop for the competition! Good luck

I’m sorry but just “planning” to upgrade an existing game is against the spirit of the competition and can’t be allowed.

Re using engines, scripts and fragments of code is okay, but once you have game mechanics already laid out it makes little sense for the scope of the jam :(

Thanks for the guide! Maybe we can post this on https://gbadev.net?

Looks cool! You can tweet updates on your work using the #gbcompo hashtag or tagging @gbdev0. We also have a dedicated #showcase channel on our Discord server where we upload this kind of content! ( https://discord.io/gbdev )

Looks okay to me! Go ahead :D
