I liked your game. The mechanics were well thought out and were well used for the overall level design. The little platforming was nice and challanging. Controlls felt smooth and on point.
One thing i did not figure out was how to 'summon' the platform. I got the blue and the red crystal but nothing happend.
All in all great work :)
Weird, perhaps it just bugged and didn't appear? The only conditions were touching the blue and red crystals to make them appear in the middle next to where the platform spawns.
Either way I'm glad you liked it and I appreciate the feedback. Thank you.
Really cool mechanic with having to light up your path. The jumping puzzles with the torches were satisfying to complete. I think there may have been a glitch with collecting the red crystal. Either way i think it needed a sound effect or something as feedback. Subtle things like that that let the player know they are doing the right thing.
Congratulations on all your progress this year. Ended it with easily your best game.
Yeah, I had definitely thought about how to let the player know they did the thing but I just didn't put enough time into it to get it added before the deadline. Definitely something I'll keep in mind though, making sure as much as possible is clear to the player at all times. Thank you for the kind words, I appreciate it.
I think you've got something really great here! I loved the atmosphere in this, it was so creepy! The wall textures looked great and the lighting was perfect. The sound effects w/ the fireballs and fireworks was nice as well.
I think the fireballs/fireworks are an awesome mechanic that can be used in some interesting ways! Both as a means to light up your path so that you can see where you're going, but also to interact w/ things and shoot enemies. I think it could be interesting if you limited the ammo, so you had to be careful w/ how you use your shots. I liked how, when I got to the room w/ the ghosts, it made it so I was afraid to shoot the fireball, because I wasn't sure what I'd uncover.
I think having the lit spires as a way of guiding the player is an interesting way of teaching w/o telling. I also would want to explore and try and uncover things tucked away in the dark corners.
Feedback:
Awesome stuff!
Thank you, I appreciate it. The idea was something I've wanted to do for a while and just decided to experiment a bit with it. It's obviously still very rough but I agree, it has some potential.
Yeah the ghost I realized was a little confusing, it lacked proper feedback. I didn't end up implementing health/death in that way because I ran up against the deadline so I just had the ghost move onto its next respawn if it touched you or it died.
And yeah, the actual objective isn't clearly explained within the game but I did try to light up certain important things to let the player know these spots are important and/or you can light up most of the area with the torches.
