Good to see some other French devs, here. That's quite pleasant not having to pass into qwerty mode before playing. ^^

Aside from that, I loved the creepy feeling and atmosphere of your game. The idea is really cool too, even if I'm not sure how it's related to the theme. Is it because, depending on the light, you can see only yourself or only the enemy, but never both?

Developer

Thanks for the feedback!

We went with the idea of a game with only "one color". Just like Black elements could only be seen with a Blue background, the blue player could only be seen with a black background. As you see it doesn't work like actual light which frustrates a lot of people, we'll probably add more visual feedbacks to make it feel more pleasant.
In addition to the one color, the game plays with only one screen where you must survive alone.

Submitted(+1)

Oh okay, I definitely didn't get the "one color" thing.
Thanks for clarifying.

I love this idea that some enemies are visible in dark vs. visible in light (or is it just when I get hit?). Either way I like the mechanic so much I kinda want to steal it, haha.

The game itself is really challenging with your choice of seeing yourself or seeing your enemies, but not both.

While I think it may be a tad too hard to tell what's going on at times, It's one of my favorites so far in the jam!

Developer(+1)

XD i think you have the right to reuse it !

It's for that i love so much game jam....
it create a huge catalog of small concept presented in prototype that can be inspired to make your own game later.

So if you realize a game where this mechanism could be integrated in an interesting and original way, use it!

Really cool idea! It took a little bit of time to get used to the controls, but once I did I really enjoyed it! My main critique would be to make the health/light bars stand out a bit more, since I found it hard to tell when I was out of light or close to dying. Great job, though!

Submitted(+1)

This is fun! Cool style, fun gameplay, very difficult! I wonder how it would play if your meter increased with time rather than having to collect items.

Submitted(+2)

Dang, you were able to create such a creepy atmosphere with only 2 colors and one dimension. Kudos to you! It gets really hectic and fun the farther you get into it! Lighting idea was really cool! Great job!

Would love if you could check mine out too! Or not, no pressure ;) https://itch.io/jam/gmtk-2019/rate/462672?after=20#post-876644

An interesting concept! Can be a bit confusing as the light covers a very small space so you mostly just fire at random and find enemies by being hit, maybe give some hints to enemies' positions? The look is nice, excellent choice of colour!

Nice dual-purpose mechanic! I think I share the sentiment with some people that it takes a little bit of time to get used to it, but once you get it, it's a fun game. My score: 1750 in 1:00.

It might be cool to make health as part of your energy too , so that you only have one resource to juggle around(and healing pick ups are much more needed which push player to venture out to darkness) perhaps even add in doom style where enemy will drop pickups at higher rate when your energy gets low!

Any way , cool take on the only one color concept. I made a one color game too : https://itch.io/jam/gmtk-2019/rate/460289

A neat idea and well-executed.

This game is interesting.

It's pretty original because I don't have any other game that I could compare it to your's.

Design: 4/5

Adherence to the Theme: 4/5

Originality: 5/5

Loved this game! The gameplay is not easy but it is enjoyable and the sounds create a perfect atmosphere. I think I got about 2200 points max.

Developer(+1)

ha ha not bad ;) thanks for playing!

Good concept, but the blade saws felt unfair, given that they were faster than you, and their movement couldn't be telegraphed.

(+2)

But i look forward to the way you tinker with darkness and viability. Remember, people criticize a game more when they want it to be good.

Developer (1 edit)

That's a good feedback! I thought the sawblades wouldn't be such a problem as they follow a very specific pattern : They just turn around in their own circle. But since we can't see them, we get no information about the danger.
I think we'll add some kind of rail to tell the player where a sawblade will pass by; I don't know if it will be blue or black though. Making it blue would push the player in a strategy where he would keep the sawblade intact in order to be aware of passing-by robots. Having it black could still feel unfair even if its by a smaller extent.

love it! great idea.  good luck finding the right balance of strategy and rng

This game looks amazing and plays really well.

Should you be able to see yourself when lighting up an area? Or is it a "you can only see yourself or the enemies" deal?

Nice work!

Developer(+1)

We wanted the player to see only one element at a time : Since you easily loose track of your position, you need to take some risks and leave the light to undestand where you are.

It's very unconventional and some players found it pretty frustrating... We might add more visual feedbacks in the future to make it feel better.

the invisible enemies are dope! well done!

Developer

Just in case, know that you can use Space to create a light around you that makes enemies visible!
Since a lot of people try a dozen of games each hour, they tend to miss basic mechanics sometimes.

Submitted(+2)

yes. I was able to kill them. really liked them, best enemy design I came across so far!

Simple but fun!

Love the art!

Great job!

That was fun! I really liked the atmosphere of constant tension when you don't have enough energy and can't see enemies anymore! The fact that you can't see your character in the light is, at first, quite frustrating, but after a while it became ok, but maybe you can add an indicator when you shoot in the light so you can see where you are or something, because I think it's a cool idea that can be improved...

The main problem I see is that it lacks of some kind of difficulty progression, it was kinda hard when I first started the game and I had to retry several time to have a correct score (Mainly because I'm bad at video-games :'( )

Overall, it's a great game for 48h, and I had a great time playing it so good job!

It's a nice concept, but I hate the fact that I can't see my character in the light. This problem is a real pain in the neck. Also, I don't like to spam LMB to kill monsters.

Developer

I totally agree, not seeing the character was part of the concept idea and we didn't realized how frustrating it could get.
We also made an energy bar to avoid the player just spamming his attack, but it seems it isn't enough. What would you suggest instead of LMB?

Submitted

Just let me press down LMB for the main attack. But keep the energy bar, as in this case, it's very important to limit the time of 'shooting'.

Developer(+1)

Ah, I see. I don't know if it's really suitable though; mobs all die instantly.
I'm curious to know how long it would require for a player like you to get used to this design.
Thanks for the feedback!

Submitted

The problem is that I love shooters and actions, as a result I'm keen on smooth controls and maximum control of the charachter.

Submitted(+3)

The atmosphere of this game is great. it sounds and looks incredible. The game play is pretty solid its fun yet challenging.

If its no issue could you guys check out our entry?

sorry .. this is a typping error. the game was made in 48 hours during the game jam. I corrected the description

Developer
Becher likes to write important information with his feet. :p
It is for all this that he is an essential member of the project "realized in 48 hours"

Developer

He simply copy-pasted the description of our previous jam for convenience. Whoops !
This was indead a 48 hour project.
