cute! would have preferred if the green text/ "options" repeated once. when the first green option came up, i didn't know what the other one was going to be, so if i stayed around to wait.. but preferred the 1st option, i had to watch the text repeat again. which made it feel like i wasn't progressing as much as i would have liked to. but i love that when i read the game, i felt like i was reading it in a robot voice. but the characters were cute and it felt like a childhood backyard D&D story lol
Thanks! After my friend played it, he told me "god forbid you make a D&D campaign..." so it's not just you :)
I definitely agree on the option selection. My only issue with making the options repeat is that it might violate my (admittedly strict) "only one word" policy. In another comment I had an idea to make clicking on a choice highlight it, and it would only proceed with that one after it had shown you all the other options. You could also change your chosen option if you like the next one better.
This was a really cool and interesting game! I loved the story and how much you fully embraced the theme in a way no one else did. My one minor tweak I would add is to make the clickable options hang around for just a tiny bit longer. I felt like when I finally realized I needed to click, the green options would change and I would click on the wrong one.
Thank you so much! And you're right, it does take a moment to realize what the green options are telling you. Since the "choice" text uses a different timing system, I probably could have made a separate WPM setting for it. That would make it easier to use for everyone. Ah well, maybe next time ;)
Oh my god it's a game made in Processing! :O That' so cool! :D
Oh yeah, the game... It's awesome! A very unique way to tell a story and well executed.
Very imaginative, simple idea and fun to play. Fits the theme perfectly!
TIL bears eat soup. ;D
Incredible how different a textbase adventure feels when it is presented in this manner!
This is one of the most unique takes on the text based adventure I've seen in a while- well done!
My only gripe with the design is that I would occasionally just click a green word by instinct before seeing what the other options were first. I suppose it would have broken the rule of "one word", maybe a second click for confirmation? I dunno, otherwise this was super cool to read.
Thank you for the feedback! I did actually consider doing something like "you wonder whether you should fight the bear or run away" with your choices then being "fight" or "run" but, as you say, I felt that would go against the spirit of only using one word.
Perhaps you could click once to select a choice, and then it would only proceed after it cycled through the rest of the options... It would give you the opportunity to change at any time and would let you see all the options without breaking the "one word" theme.
What an original way of telling a story, my favourite game of this jam so far. Good job!
Very well executed! I love the idea. Simple and impactful
I've never had to pay so much attention choosing dialog options... A really cool idea and I think it mimics actually talking to someone quite well, rather staring at them for 30 seconds in complete silence as you decide which dialog tree you want to go down.
I really like the whole setup of the game. But now my leg is wounded. GG
Really awesome! Even (well, especially...) choosing the settings was fun! 5/5
