My first game jam

So this was my first game jam. Not only for me but also for my own game engine. I wanted to see if I can write good (and readable) code while also being in a hurry. As an additional pain point I had only 16h to make this game.

But everything turned out great. Everything, from the art to the mechanic was designed to be done in 16h hours. After 12h I had the mechanic and only needed to create compelling levels.

I know my entry is not the best.
But if at least one person likes my game, I see it as a success (next game jam I'll give myself higher goals)

I think that it could be a little more clear on what you are supposed to do and how the controls work, but after a minute I figured it out and it was a decent game at the core. For a first game jam it is not bad and you should definitely try to improve at next years jam.

This is also my first game jam, and I made a game called Broken Robot. It is a puzzle platformer where you can only press each direction once per stage.

It was our first game jam too! :) What an amazing experience. You might want to check out our game: https://itch.io/jam/gmtk-2019/rate/461869#post-847805 :)

I just tried out your game, and it's pretty neat!  It plays well and the instructions do a good job of explaining how to play.  Not bad at all for a first jam!

This was my first game jam too, and I made a game called Sole Survivor.  It's a top-down zombie shooter where you only use the space bar to play.  I would really appreciate feedback!

Hi GreenCheese333,

thank you very much for your feedback. It was a very valueable and enjoyable experience. The stress in the end and the relief to have submitted the game was an exceptional experience :)

I will definitely check out your game asap and leave a feedback and rating :)

Thanks!

Lol, I had the same experience with the relief of being able to submit the game after the deadline.  I had put off submitting it until about thirty minutes before the deadline (which was a mistake I won't repeat!) and I thought my internet just wasn't working at first.  I was so upset until I realized that it was just the website, and I was so happy when I saw that the deadline got extended to account for it.  Nice to know I wasn't the only one that felt the stress :)

Apparently the version of the game that I uploaded to the jam skips straight to the last level.  If anybody would like to check out the proper version of my game, it is here:  https://greencheese333.itch.io/sole-survivor-proper.  I would really appreciate it if I could still get some feedback!

Same here! I thought I would join a game jam to give me something to work on, and I like what I created, and am looking forward to participating next year if I can.

Same! I almost joined this years Ludum Dare but had to cancel. For this one I took off work and my Fiance and I worked all weekend together. Had an AMAZING time and after a few weeks of napping I want to jump into another and improve where we ran into roadblocks.

Here's a link since people are posting theirs around:
