Another pico-8 game! A person of culture I see. All jokes aside very nice job :). It's always great to see pico-8 games in this jam. My only advice is that the button for "Z" looks like it's saying "O". This is a pico-8 issue, not something you did, but unless someone know's pico-8 they don't know to press "Z". Just something small. Amazing job!

Nice game! I like the idea! Here's some things - I think - would benefit it:

  • Make sure to always spawn enemies off-screen (or at least far from the player, currently they can spawn on top of you).
  • I never really had to use the aim feature, I think the game should've created situations where re-aiming is more practical. For example, you can make hp restroring items that only spawn at the center.

(and of course add the score to the game-over screen)

Like the presentation quite a bit. The glitch effect is real nice.

That said... I found gameplay to be lacking.

What do you think that the gameplay is missing?

Depth. If I moved towards the right, enemies always came from the same directions (upper left, left, and lower left) which made the randomized aiming a non-issue.

Having found an optimal strategy that fast, is not good for enjoyment.

I feel that that is a good strategy, 

But really the game is programmed so at any point 5 enemies could spawn in less than a second and you would be in trouble, but the chance of that happening isn't really high.

Maybe changing the equation to be in the area in which the player is moving to could help.

I think it would be better if your direction changed periodically, so you would have to move around the enemies into a more favorable position. Now its more about spamming Z/C until you shoot where you want to.  But I really like the minimalist/glitchy visuals :)
