Wildcards Used
All three, at night, fall themed, constant player choice of where best to go next.

Game Description
A quick mini game about growing and harvesting crops as a sentient scarecrow. Fend off troublesome crows and use the power of the pumpkin to get the biggest bounty possible before the night is up.

How does your game tie into the theme?
Its all about harvesting. The goal of harvesting autumn crops, at night, and where time is of the essence in making moment-to-moment decisions for the best score possible. I believe it hits the main theme as well as the wildcards.

Awesome presentation with all game elements, very creative, unique UI, beautiful artand a nice, simple gameplay loop.

Solid entry!

Thanks so much for playing my game, I'm glad you liked it so much!

Really nice art.  The particle effects are great, particularly when picking up the pumpkin head.

Developer(+1)

Hi! Thank you for trying out my game and appreciating the art. The particles were enjoyable to make. They took a few iterations but I ended up using the same five base images for most particle effects, and had minor color shifts to make them fit the situation they belonged to. Glad the effects were noticable to you!

The text on the How-To screen is barely readable, I really struggled trying to read it. Other than that, good game. The art style is amazing, tho. Nice job. :)

Developer

Ah dang, that's unfortunate I'm sorry to make that difficult on you. I really considered if I should make it more bold. Glad to have the feed back though, will update in the future once the jams done. Thanks for playing it and appreciating the art!

Great game. Great characters. Love the art and animation. Core game loop is satisfying.

I might ask for a tiny bit more feedback when I do something right, like stepping on a seed. Player onboarding is so hard! I looked at the instructions, got scared, played the game, didn't realize I had to step on the seeds, looked at the instructions again, got it.

Developer

Hey, thanks very much for playing my game and such kind words. Thats really helpful feed back.

I think maybe a time delay on each instruction wouldve helped in making that information more digestible.

And for the seeds, I see what you mean. My attempt of coordinating sound queues, animations, and particle bursts to get the proper feel for each action definitely needs some fine tuning.

I didn't really understand a lot of what was going on. I think it looked nice, felt nice control wise. Audio was good. I didn't like the lack of a pause or the fact that it was difficult to figure out exactly what was happening.

Also, I'm not sure what the crows do because I had many land in my wheat but it didn't seem like they were doing anything to my score or the wheat.

Developer

Hi, thank you so much for playing my game!

The crows eat crops, so if you let them build up, then crops you take too long to get back to will be eaten and thus, you will fail to get any score from them.

In the interest of doing better in the future, would you mind answering these questions for me:

Can you elaborate on the feeling you had of not knowing what was happening? Any opinions on what would have helped you not feel this way?

Had you looked at the "How To" screen? If so, what was your general opinion of it (helpful, not helpful, etc), and how did it influence your understanding of the game?

What did you think about the length of the gameplay time?

"Not knowing what was happening" was too vague, and I apologize for that.
What my issues were:
I was having a hard time figuring out where my scarecrow was in space on the map.
Couldn't tell if my scythe was hitting the crops correctly.
It also took me a little bit to figure out that there were 3 harvests needed per wheat. So it seemed like something was wrong with what I was doing, but it was actually harvesting them one a time, which was not intuitive to how a scythe would work.

I did look at the How To screen. I had to do it after I jumped in and was very confused. I think it explained some components well, but again the 3x harvesting wheat was confusing. Also, the "you have one night" was a little confusing. I think the moon going across the sky indicated time in the level, but it was hard to tell how much time was left based on that.

I don't know the length of gameplay time because I backed out to the menu and it started me over (though I think that was something I did with the browser on accident) and then I had a work meeting I had to get to after I played for like 45 more seconds.

Thank you for taking the time to respond. The points you've mentioned make a lot of sense and will definitely help me get better at handling communication of gameplay elements to the player, namely time and hitboxes, as well being mindful of base UI considerations like the inclusion of a "BACK" button. Thanks again for playing!

Yeah, no problem. I know how valuable feedback can be.
Did you create the art, animation, and music for your game?

Developer(+1)

I did all the art, animation, and coding. The music I used was a royalty free song I found (that is the credit at the top right) and the sound effects were free sounds I found from various free sound effect sites.

There are so many crows XD

The art and animation was really really good, very smooth and appealing to look at. The controls felt a little clunky but everything generally meshed together well. Awesome game! My high score was 143

Developer

Hi, I appreciate you taking the time to play my game!

I am very grateful for your feed back and would love more if you don't mind:

Can you elaborate on what you thought felt clunky about the controls?

What are your thoughts about the amount of crows? How did it influence your opinion of the game?

What was your opinion of the gameplay time?

Did you look at the "How To" screen? If so, what were your thoughts about it, and how did it influence your undestanding of the game (helpful, not helpful, confusing, etc)?
