Like others have said, the controls were hard because of the camera angles. The map wasn't working and it didn't make sense based on the rooms I was going through. Also, I didn't know what any of the controls were other than walking, running, and "v" for interact because there wasn't any sort of indication in game. I see now that it is explained on the game's page.

Also, my second run ended when I got about 3 rooms in, like a dining area type room, and got stuck next to a table and couldn't get out. The alien in the room also got stuck while trying to run towards me on a different table.

Very frustrating experience.

But the art? The voice acting? The dialogue boxes? Sublime. I think a couple gameplay fixes would have made this game great instead of good for a jam.

I had tried to do the "click once and drag" harvest, but it wasn't working for me. Maybe because I was playing the HTML5 version? I've noticed some weirdness with some of the games published in that format.

And yeah, no problem! I've really enjoyed trying to give some constructive feedback to the other developers in this Jam.

The game was a cool concept/take on the Survivorslike.

I think the game needed a couple things explained slightly better. Even though the description on the page covered a bit of it, I wasn't expecting hitting the "sell souls" to end the game. Also, strange that just running out of time didn't sell the souls as well.

A timer on the attack and dash would have been nice. Side note: using the dash I accidentally aimed at the outside of the map and then got stuck on the border until I could dash again towards the center.

After going into the game, the "Exit Game" didn't work, and after ending the game and going to the "Main Menu", none of those buttons worked (in the HTML5 version).

It would have been nice if there were sound effects for actions. Also, having the people just "die of old age" seemed a little strange. Especially since they were dying so much faster than I could have harvested them, so it was almost worthless to try to attack and, instead, just run and dash like a mad man trying to collect all the souls.

A question (maybe I missed the answer somewhere), what was the point of the "Green" = Good and "Red" = Bad? I didn't quite understand how I was gaining those or what it meant gameplay-wise.

Anyway, hope this is helpful because it's definitely a good first-jam game!

I think this was a pretty good game. The concept was very cool and the execution was definitely there, especially for a game jam build.

I did not like that clicking a crop would harvest it, but then a second click would destroy the fertile ground. I feel like there should have been a second tool like a hammer or shovel or something to return the dirt to normal (I'm assuming the change was for traps and the like)

Also, I wish there was some sort of indication that the soul essence was ready to harvest, as I didn't expect it to only have a "planted" stage and a "grown" stage. Probably too much time playing Stardew Valley and the likes where there are multiple stages before harvest is ready.

But yeah the "Survivorlike" + Farming is a very cool concept and I think this is a great jam entry!

Pretty cool concept. The speed of the scarecrow being slower than the crows made me feel like even if I made every right move, there was no way I could keep it going forever as eventually the crows would eat no matter what.

Additionally, I felt like the end was weird because I could keep playing the game even after the crows ate the food in one of the troughs/garden areas.

It could have also been cool if a crow coming from the left didn't necessarily go to the garden area/trough on the right, but that would have made the game insanely difficult without speeding up the scarecrow.

But again, good work overall!

If you don't buy candy, it opens up different gameplay. Which I believe also needs to be balanced.

But yes, I agree, I needed more balance, but I ran out of time and had never attempted a tower defense type game before, so I couldnt rely on past knowledge.

Did you not hand out candy and take that path?

Yeah, I definitely needed to make that about 50-60% see through. Thanks for playing!

I definitely get that. I tried to cram a quick explanation of the game mechanics into two dialogues.
In the early stage of development I had my wife play it and she kept asking different questions about what things do and I was like "oh no, just because it's obvious for me means almost nothing"

You're supposed to be able to click them and remove them.
I think there is a bug that I can't figure out preventing it from being allowed sometimes. So far, the three different computers I've played it on have all worked with removing the leaves, but I've had two friends play it and they have both ran into issues with the leaves.

Frustrating.

And thank you. If you're looking for a more Tower Defense type game, I suggest not buying the candy for the trick-or-treaters and seeing what happens :D

Yeah, no problem. I know how valuable feedback can be.
Did you create the art, animation, and music for your game?

Yeah, that's how I felt when I was making my game. I luckily had someone playtest my nearly complete version about 6 hours before submission which got me to find a lot of little things, but I didn't have time to incorporate some of their feedback on QoL and balancing which was disappointing (for me).

"Not knowing what was happening" was too vague, and I apologize for that.
What my issues were:
I was having a hard time figuring out where my scarecrow was in space on the map.
Couldn't tell if my scythe was hitting the crops correctly.
It also took me a little bit to figure out that there were 3 harvests needed per wheat. So it seemed like something was wrong with what I was doing, but it was actually harvesting them one a time, which was not intuitive to how a scythe would work.

I did look at the How To screen. I had to do it after I jumped in and was very confused. I think it explained some components well, but again the 3x harvesting wheat was confusing. Also, the "you have one night" was a little confusing. I think the moon going across the sky indicated time in the level, but it was hard to tell how much time was left based on that.

I don't know the length of gameplay time because I backed out to the menu and it started me over (though I think that was something I did with the browser on accident) and then I had a work meeting I had to get to after I played for like 45 more seconds.

I'll have to give it another shot. It seemed really cool and I wondered if I was just missing some sort of information.

User error, it's a hell of a bug. lol.

This is a really fun game! Good work. The only thing I would have liked to be different was how using cards worked. It would have been nice if I could have just double clicked cards that targeted all enemies or my self to use them. Additionally, double clicking cards with one target when there was only one target remaining.

Other than that small preference gripe, this is a great game!

Amazing you built this over the course of a 10-day Jam. Wild.

Seems like it could be an interesting game. Not sure if it was just user error or a bug, but I could not use the mouse to look around at all. So that was pretty frustrating.

This was a fun little game. Good work!
My only issue was that anything relating to... the red little blast... can't remember the name right now, but none of the descriptions loaded correctly and had a little note like: "Sorry this description didn't load :'(" in the description area.

The game was wild.

After I used the bed one time, the game randomly started/ended waves.

One shot would either use 1 ammo, all of my ammo, or none of my ammo. Sometimes clicking the mouse/"E" would refill my ammo if I had 0, sometimes they wouldn't. I would randomly get seeds to plant, but I could not tell how/why.

But outside of the bugs, it seemed like a game that could be fun to play.

I didn't really understand a lot of what was going on. I think it looked nice, felt nice control wise. Audio was good. I didn't like the lack of a pause or the fact that it was difficult to figure out exactly what was happening.

Also, I'm not sure what the crows do because I had many land in my wheat but it didn't seem like they were doing anything to my score or the wheat.

Game has that same error listed in hemebond's comment for Windows file.
