Hey, really interesting mechanic, loved the originality, and I am eager to see where this one goes!
One thing I tell you is that I found the controllers a little but confusing because of the diagonal directions.
I would love to figure out the code of this project, if you ever put it in a public repository, let me know :)
Interesting simple concept that makes for a fast game with lots of possibilities, I would make it more clear with very different colors, and specially colorblind proof them or allow configuration. As others said, hexagons make for weird movements with arrow keys. A solid entry for the competition, kudos
As mentions in the Ideation phase https://roldy.itch.io/indiecade-greenlight-ideation-hexology
One of the chosen diversifiers was accessibility and I have a specific plan for colorblindlness. The final version won't use numbers but instead easily distinguishable shapes. And the shapes will be drawn with a 'line style;' solid, wavy, dotted etc... each line style will be paired with a color. So along with color, they will be rendered with a different linestyle.
Thanks for playing and the feedback. I'm looking forward to banging this into shape.
I love this concept! I found myself just playing with it for awhile. It would be really fun as a phone game. It looks like you've already addressed it but I think the switch to 741/963 and qaz/edc will make a huge difference on the playability on the keyboard.
I did have some issues seeing some of the numbers clearly, maybe if you could make the font thicker or the background contrast different it would be easier. I was also wondering if you've considered the option to change the colors for color blind players.
Neat, controls are pretty confusing and simple gameplay but i cant say im not intrigued to see how the final product ends up
Yeah the Arrow keys and WASD are going to be a little wierd. But mouse, touch and gamepad will be pretty intuitive. In addition to WASD and Arrow keys I plan on implementing 741/963 (numpad) and qaz-edc for 6 way movement, but its always going to be a little wierd when a player presses up or down and either
Not too worried about it though. Some playtesting will hopefully smooth it out.
