There are some things that I want to nitpick (text codes showing on character names, player sprite overlapping the cutscene sprite, overuse of "...") but overall this intro managed to pack a lot of emotion in and I loved the custom art.

Developer

Thank you! And thanks for the feedback and bugs (I realized I didn’t replace the events on the left and right side when entering the demon lord room oops).

Actually I didn't notice any issues with the Demon Lord room. I was specifically thinking of the cutscene in the bedroom - the player sprite is visible over the cutscene's sprite, so I can't really see what Roald is doing during the cutscene.

Developer

Huh, didn't realize there was a bug on that part :o but I'll definitely look into that. Thanks for letting me know!

I appreciated the effort you put into the battle events and dialog, and the second act shift was a cool surprise! Nice style, is the tile/face/sprite work your own?

One adjustment to consider would be to turn down the battle SEs so they balance better with the BGM. I liked your music selection.

Developer

Thank you! And yes, all of the custom art assets is drawn by me! :)
And thanks for the feedback! I'll be sure to fix that in the next update

Very pretty mapping. I really liked the slower pace.
The characters all had substance even if they were there only for a short while.

Thank you! I hope to expand on the new world and characters in future developments!

Awwww, I was so ready for the tournament! Totally unique portrayal of "Roald." Loved the art and thought the faces were really expressive and communicated a lot. I want to see more of this story explored! Will we get a fuller version?

Thank you! I had a lot of fun learning RPG maker!   And Im glad you enjoy the different spin of the characters! I plan to finish the first part of it (had a lot of maps and art that unfortunately wasn’t able to make it in time)!

It's a shame your game got cut short. It looked really sweet.

Developer

Thanks! I had a bunch of concepts and ideas for this but realize the faults when executing and developing this in a time limit! But I also had a lot of fun! I’m hoping to use those experiences and time management to make a more polished game on time in future jams!

I went from Harold's Quest, where an RPG Maker hero gets stuck in an 8-bit world, to a game where you lose the first battle and the graphic style completely changes. Suddenly I don't feel so big and cool and original anymore.

Funnies aside, what sticks out to me is your art style, especially the face sprites. Roald is adorable! The story sounds nice so far, and I was looking forward to more of it. I also like the way you introduce saving to the player with the journal. It feels very natural and doesn't sound like it breaks the boundaries of the game to remind you to save every now and them. It's a real shame you ran out of time, this was a really nice entry.

I’m glad you enjoyed it despite it being a wee short! (By wee, I mean really short). And I’m glad you’re enjoying the art and characters. To be honest, I had thoughts of attempting to just make an aesthetic looking  game, but then I had some ideas going on.

Also Fun Fact: Roald is just an anagram of Harold but without the first letter.

I didn’t know it would end like this. But I actually like the intro and expecting what’s next. Maybe make a chapter 2 next year.

Thanks! I might actually planning to finish it after the jam (well, the first chapter that I originally had to do). A lot of content I had planned out was unfortunately cut due to the lack of time, but I’m glad you enjoyed it!

Can't wait to see it!
