This was fun! Had just enough time to finish everything (I think I finished everything) and beat the dragon on first try. Reminds me of similar timed sequences in FF6.

  • Really like the simplified combat UI system.
  • James/Jessie = Pokemon reference? Haha.
  • Even though it's an unpolished map, I really like the little beach shore area for some reason.

I'm glad you enjoyed the game. I had my reservations for the games when some people ran into some of its blemishes earlier this week. I still think its a worthy tribute to Harold. However, Harold's Journey Beyond is the MVP in this game jam in my opinion.

That game is pretty sweet haha. It deserves more points for the Harold category, but can't give more than 5.

Blemishes huh? There is some lazy mapping going on, but I think that gives it a nice meme feeling, for what is kind of a meme jam to begin with haha. I actually kinda liked that. The only thing I noticed was a little off, was the sparkles for the random stat ups wouldn't always show up/show up inconsistently. But I just got around that by inspecting buncha objects, plus I still beat the dragon even if I missed some, so I kinda forgot about that until you mention blemishes just now haha.

This is a solid game with a fair bit of variety. The custom battle UI was a nice touch. Using some custom busts for dialog is also a unique touch. Good job!

Thanks, I always look for an excuse or reason to implement custom artwork in my games. It helps with giving it its own identity.

I thought that was extremely fun and face paced. I was definitely a bit confused about how to trigger things, but figuring it all out in time was pretty rewarding. Game was also short enough that you could lose and try again really quickly (I won first try because I'm heroic of course).


The custom assets were pretty cool, as was the menu style. Very fun entry!

EDIT: Also I didn't personally run into any bugs that hindered progress. It went smoothly for me.

I'm glad you enjoyed it, the bugs people mentioned did somewhat damper my confidence in this game though. As for the custom assets, I always like to add my own personal flare to my projects considering my artistic nature.

This turned out to be one of my favorites in the Jam so far, nice job!

The first time through I got my rear handed to me by the dragon, and I really wanted to try again. I feel you achieved the difficulty sweet spot, where an entertaining challenge and an initial failure inspire persistence. My second time through I defeated him, and it felt satisfying. The timer mechanic really made the adventure a rush too.

One technical critique: my first time through, I was *positive* I could enter the water at the dock, and that I could fire the ballista, but no matter where I clicked nothing happened. My second time through I realized that I had to click myself once I was in position to get the prompt. I seems much more common that the player is expected to click the object they wish to interact with, rather standing near it and clicking their toon. Once I figured that out everything worked great.

Another small one is that although I enjoyed your music selections, the shifts when key events happened were very abrupt, so it felt a bit jarring as the music stopped cold, then another tune kicked in. All that being said, the title track TRUCKS, and I knew I was in for a ride as soon as it kicked in ;)

The artwork was well done too!

Thanks, I am glad it gave you a satisfying experience.  I primarily make story focused game (the story for the game was a bit too simplistic looking back) but I think its serviceable.

I was a bit surprised by its reception as well, both good and bad. (the satisfied feeling others had while others ran into alot of bugs.)  

I was somewhat was inspired by Final Fantasy 7 Remake's boss design so I wanted to incorporate that in my own games. The game was okay but the bosses were my favorite aspect of the game.

Ah! FF7 is one of my fondest gaming memories from the old days, what a magnificent adventure. I haven't had a chance to play the remake yet but hope to.

Thanks for asking! I'm a new game developer, so far I've made just one full game, an action adventure with some small RPG elements called Sandstone. 

I'm most inspired by RPGs and adventure games games that go beyond entertaining mechanics and weave a tale that has an emotional impact on the player, and make it feel like your choices have meaning. To me games are the ultimate entertainment, because they have so much power to immerse us in an alternate world.

Player choice is very important, so it feels like their choices have weight. That is true about games, if they are immersing us in their world I think they are doing a good job.

I'm more inspired by story-focused games (not much of a surprise con side this is the type of game I like to make) JRPGs usually hit this balance for me. However, sometimes the gameplay can fall behind in this genre but I usually stick around for the story, if its good that is. 

I have made one full game "Path of the Martyrs" a RPG,  which got published and will be live on Steam on the 18th of this month. Then I have two other jam games entitled "The Heart's Fallacy" and "Variant Accord". The first is a horror game and second is somewhat visual novel but you can move around the map.

It's a nice idea but there's lots of bugs, probably the most annoying is that you lose HP for no real reason when you swim. I lost a lot of HP and couldn't beat the dragon. It also is kinda shame that you can't enter any of the buildings. Also I thought that if I just waited the timer, the dragon would attack then to engage in the battle but instead it was insta death and I should have gone to the gate to attack. It wasn't very clear on that.

This was pretty awesome! It took me a few tries to help everyone in the village but it was worth it! I loved the custom sprites and UI, it really popped and made the game into a unique experience! Great job!

I am glad you liked the game. I was originally make the time shorter so you have to prioritize your time. However, giving the player option to do everything also a nice option. Also I always take any opportunity I can to make custom assets because I want to personalize the game to my liking.
