This could be incredible with some light balancing! I wish I could try the desktop version, but I don't use windows. Didn't feel too slow though?
The game is very slow and it takes forever to gain enough money to buy things in the shop, but it might be only a problem with the web version. It was hard to get a sense of direction when going up and down so perhaps you could add a few bubbles? The graphics is otherwise really neat and the game seems well designed. I missed music and SFX.
This game has a lot of secret stuff if you dig for it, like going super deep and finding unique fish with the light. I really like how it doesn't show its hand all at once. The character is super duper adorable, and this game manages to really create some naturally intense moments with the timer and health. I love it!
I spent about 40 minutes trying to unlock everything. So really fun game, but it needs a lot of polish and balancing. Capping the amount of cash that can be earned in the beginning to 15 and 45 makes it take a lot longer to get anything. It would be nice if cash correlated with points better. Sometimes I forgot to buy anything in the shop, and then couldn't go back to buy what I missed. I went straight to fins, skipping over the fishing pole, because I thought it would help me more, but then missed out on the fun of the fishing pole.
Hiding a secret, or better fish at the bottom would be nice.
Jellyfish being good for points instead of stinging you is a little counterintuitive. Also the guy giving a thumbs up everytime you get a fish is somewhat jarring, because he is standing on an invisible ground.
I think you have a winning contender.
40 minutes? wow, that’s a lot!
and as to balancing, yeah it’s not that good, and it’s like that because I’ve played the game so much that it became too easy for me to play. I should’ve given someone else to playtest it before i had submitted it… as to fixing this, I will release another actually polished version of the game after the jam ends. (not now because logo doesn’t allow that)
also if you were playing on the web version you might have played the game at half speed which for some reason HTML does that, and it REALLY worsens the gameplay.
