To be honest, it's pretty standard. But, that doesn't matter!
An easy way to make a game mechanic more interesting than it actually is is by presenting it in a more story-like manner. How about your character just obtained freshly baked bread and they have to reach home before it gets cold? Just think of ways you can present your game mechanics as opposed to "there is a number in the corner slowly ticking down".
thats a cool idea! but I ended up going with a much more story driven approach, and a totally different game!
