I like how your game is supported and guided by the story of Ra. Good job!
This one was really fun to play, attacks and movement felt pretty smooth, and there was a good variety of enemy types that had their own moveset. I also kinda liked the strategic layer to it where you can pick off smaller groups of enemies by luring them away, made the bigger areas a bit easier. And I also liked the idea of making spears damage multiple enemies and retrievable, but limited in number, also forced to use them with a bit more thought like "Ok if I throw them from this angle then I'll have to circle around this way. If I throw a spear at this enemy now then I don't know how many other enemies I'll piss off just to retrieve it".
I also liked the lore dump for each stage so it felt like a journey, so you picked a pretty apt name for the game. Though I think it might be better to have the first block of text fade in by itself, since I avoided pressing Enter for a bit in case I accidentally skipped a cutscene.
I wasn't crazy about the music but it was fitting sometimes. It seemed oddly chill in the levels themselves, but the lore background music I thought was good.
Great work!
Omg I really appreciate your review. It was a ton of work and I'm so glad you enjoyed it.
It's funny though, one of my friends told me the exact same thing about the text fade a couple of hours before the deadline but I decided it wasn't worth taking those 5 extra minutes to make the first one auto-fade in with the deadline so close. I now realize he was completely right XD. Dw about the music though. It was just some free tracks I got off the Unity Asset Store so they're definitely not the best fit for the game.
Again though, thanks for playing!
I was fortunate to be able to play a web based version of this game. You might consider putting the link here so others can check it out.
I’m biased towards pixel art and this style is very appealing to me. The music gives it a very 90s nostalgic SNES feel. As I’m writing this there is an audio glitch that sounds like too many resources are loading at once—not sure. The dodge animation is pretty slick. Movement is intuitive, though attacks are difficult unless you are using a mouse. I was playing on a laptop but would enjoy it more if I was also able to play without a mouse or if there was gamepad support. Every level introduces new enemies, each requiring different strategies to overcome. It’s pretty challenging and there is a lot of mythology to learn from the narrative segments between stages.
[update: I played again with a mouse and the gameplay is entirely different. There are tricks you can do like walking in one direction while attacking in another. This style of multidirectional control reminds me of Ikari Warriors]
great job!
We're so glad you liked the game!! Thank you for the comment and for playing :)
Of course! I just played another unity web game and it had a similar effect happening with the audio. It's possible the volume is clipping which can be adjusted in Audio Manager
Based on the screenshots, the artwork looks fantastic. But I can't try it because I'm not on windows. Is there a possibility for a Mac, linux or html version?
Thanks! Apparently I can't upload a different version till after rating ends so I can let you know when I upload a different version.
Those rules won’t even allow you to upload other platforms even if it’s the same game?!?
Not until ratings end unfortunately. I just made mac and linux builds with Unity though if you still want to check it out. I probably shoulda thought ahead, lol.
