Historical Accuracy
A player with average skill is expected to carry out approximately the same actions as John Libényi did. However, you have the option to alter history...

Thematic Relevance
The game takes place in 1853. You spy on the emperor, his guards spy on you.

A lot of images in the intro that looked like they were taken from different sources/potentially AI? Were they all drawn by you, or taken from a historical source? You mentioned that it was all drawn from scratch in disclaimers, but I’m not sure that includes the intro. Would be great if you could elaborate on that.

Impressive touch to have dialogues for all the individual NPCs. It looks like a game with a lot of content! Had to give up some time into the game after getting the Tailor’s job because hitting ESC kept shutting off the game, and I did that three times while trying the game. The intro runs long, and would be nice if it was skippable.

As you know, hard to get over the virus warning. Please consider uploading web versions in the future!

Thanks for participating in HAGJ9!

Thank you for the detailed evaluation!

In the hurry of writing the disclaimers in what we thought was the last minute, we indeed completely forgot about the intro. All images used there are edited versions of public domain ones. Concerning historical accuracy, everything, except the "tailor's lad" image and Franz Joseph's glowing red eyes, is a "historical" picture whose original creator intended to depict the same thing as is suggested by the narration. A section of I. Dogma from Doom (2016) (which the intro is a parody of) was used as a basis for distorting the narration voice, but that hardly counts as using it in the game.

The NPCs actually communicate the same six pieces of information, but in a way that fits their personality, to make it less boring. We'll have to improve our ESC-UX design... meanwhile, you can use ESC to skip the intro!

It's quite unfortunate that the most widely used operating system makes the creations of indie developers perceived as being viruses. Until that changes, we can learn to build for web.

Nice entry. The opening was very atmospheric and the music was fun. It was impressive the way you made a full miniature town for the jam. I wish there was a way to speed up movement due to amount of backtracking. Also, I had to turn off my anti virus software to get the game to install, which felt very sketchy. A web build would be really useful in future.

So good! It would have fit better for the last game jam with the theme, but very fun to play.

Hey, Windows thinks your game is a virus for some reason. I really like the concept but couldn't open the game.

Developer

The Windows mentality is to mark any non-certified executable file as a threat. If the file downloads but you get a "Windows protected your PC" popup when running it, you just have to click More info > Run anyway. If the download is blocked, you need to temporarily disable Microsoft Defender at Windows Security > Virus & threat protection > Manage settings > Real-time protection.

Needless to say, never do this if you actually think a game is a virus.
