Historical Accuracy
All the items in the game are modeled off civil war equivalents and researched to make sure they fit in the game(for example the main character is wandering around with a musket but only a pistol since they are trying to stealthy. The setting for the game is set in the Gettysburg Campaign specifically from the 23rd-25th of June when civilian informants like the player critical in providing information on the movement of Lee's Army of Northern Virginia to the Union Army of the Potomac and General Meade, notably in regards Lee's army moving across the Potomac river towards Pennsylvania. The map in game map is based off the real route from Upperville, VA the Army of Northern Virginia took, and the route you would need to get to Frederick were part of the Army of the Potomac was based. All photographs used taken during the civil war.

Thematic Relevance
I made my game thematically relevant by making the game not be based on soldier fighting in the civil war, but rather a on the civilian informants, who performs espionage in terms of collecting critical information by observing enemy forces, persuading people, and such.

Prepare yourself to go do some recon. Pick wisely!

A nice little text + image based adventure. I clearly didn’t pick the best things for the encounters I came across. The use of real photographs is a great touch! I enjoyed preparing myself by going fake shopping for items, felt like I was packing to go on a mission. The soundtrack at the start of the game that you can play, is also quite nice. Some of the images didn’t load, and sometimes the game bugged altogether, and I couldn’t select my options for this choice, for example.

The potential is clearly there for a fun little game wandering as a spy in the countryside.

Thanks for participating in HAGJ9!

I thought the inclusion on photography was a nice choice. The inclusion of a separate hand drawn map was really interesting, and I think there was a lot of potential for an exploration game with the separate map. However, there were lots of issues that meant I couldn't properly get into the experience. The decision to tie the movement to the arrow keys meant that the scroll bar on the screen would move at the same time as the character. If you tied the movement to W, A, S and D this could have been avoided. Holding down the arrow keys led to running through the map. If you made the movement trigger on button up instead of button down that would have made the game more playable. Also, for me on chrome, I couldn't click on the entry box to write in decisions. The music was very relaxing.

first on WASD movement I honestly have no idea how I didn't catch the issue of scrolling and arrow keys earlier in development and fixed the movement i'm sorry I didn't do that. in regards to the second issue related to the entry box, I believe that happens because the entry box overlaps with another element and thus won't work. I honestly should I have spent more time debugging the game. Thanks for the review glad you liked the map and music!
