It's cool to see you try both the different control schemes and your thoughts on those; other people didn't seem to really comment on that but I wanted to make sure that it could play naturally for both "old school" gamers and people used to more modern PC controls. I'm glad that you picked up on exactly that!
And I'm kinda glad you didn't go all the way to the final boss, because I rushed it in the last day of the contest and its horribly unbalanced LOL. You got to see the best parts though!

The art is absolutely fantastic. Everything is so colourful and lively and a joy to look at from start to uh... eel-induced rage quit lol I was playing on the keyboard, so my comments here might not be the best input (since I feel a controller would work better) but I really struggled with the controls. I had trouble using the spear attack without moving forward and getting hit at the same time, and yeah I could not make it past the eels at all.
Wonderful game though! With some proper time to balance the difficulty curve and some more beautiful and unique levels, this will be a lot of fun. (oh and a fleshing out of the story, but yayyy time constraints) Congrats on placing in the top 10!
That little clam that gives hearts is my hero.
I really enjoyed this little game. It's a bit of a gem, even if I was very frustrated at the end (28 deaths is 20 too many >.<; ) I'd suggest a check point at some point during the eel section because holy shit man, my ball were busted and I don't even have balls! ;.;
That said, the rest of the game shines really well. It's definitely up there in my top five games so far. I loved the way Izel moves under water, had a ton of fun bouncing around as a
prawnshell and took vicious pleasure in stabbing enemies and spiking things to death (and destruction). Just... that eel boss yo. Fuck that guy.Here, have a rage-induced video of love.

The end boss is definitely too hard, not enough time for testing-- also, there wasn't enough of a proper difficulty ramp to prepare for him, because I had to cut so much content for the deadline. Checkpoints along the way would have probably made up for that based on the feedback I've gotten, but hey -- a deadline's a deadline LOL.

Massively underrated entry, if this doesn't place then I'm calling foul on the judges!
This might have the best overall gameplay here, the controls were super tight and responsive, everything about the navigation and use of attacks and abilities and such felt just perfect. Only major complaints are that horrendously difficult end chase scene that could've benefited from at least one checkpoint in the middle and the fact that it only kinda teased at a story for a second, though it's strong enough on its own with just the gameplay so it's not a big deal.

Those things are of course because I had to cut for the time limit. I'm planning on revisiting the game in the future to expand on it.
I had framerate issues in the part with the big spikes, as well as in the room with treasure chest shown in the screenshot, but the latter part wasn't consistent about it. The part where it faded to black after she was captured also took a really long time. I wasn't sure if the game had frozen.
I don't think it's a good idea to preserve the player's health after a cutscene. Even if the checkpoints will bring the health back, it still doesn't feel good. I think the part with the electric eels could've also used some form of mid-room checkpoints as well. That section ramps up absurdly quickly, especially for how short this demo is. It also doesn't help that most of the dangers up to that point can be literally ignored.
This game is God's work. Wonderful.
