I  got the point where I unlocked the second region (as another comment already stated, having this as an initial goal feels kind of impossible, but I got there after several rounds). I constantly had an eye on the positive numbers in the regions,  and honestly, I thought I am doing pretty well. But then this dialog appeared, telling me that my world didn't survive. I must have missed something really important on the way.

Thanks for playing and commenting!

Right, I should probably add pollution generation per - region on the regions UI too!

You basically completed all the gameplay there is right now and then died to hitting the pollution cap.. I need to do some more work around making that more obviously the lose condition.

Thanks for the feedback on the initial objectives feeling too rough, will definitely be changing that too.

Not a bad start and interesting theming. Right now, there doesn’t seem to be much strategic depth and you’re pretty much forced to lose very quickly, but the basic systems seem to work pretty well, good job!

I feel like before digging too deep into further polishing, it might be worth to flesh out the gameplay a bit more. I think one of the main problems right now is that you almost always want to play all the cards you have in hand. A simple fix for this would be to have turns be more like other deckbuilders, using a mana system combined with more card draw.

All the updates you mentioned in your devlog look pretty good now, well done! This is definitely a promising start.

Thanks for writeup!

Yes I agree about the playing cards issue.. it's partly a balance of the cards themselves issue but I will experiment with limiting actions per turn and increasing card draw, part of my reasoning for low draw initially was max hand size needs to be fairly low because my cards have a lot of text and aren't easily parsable at a glance, which may also require solving!

This was entertaining, and really immersive! I liked the little news segment at the beginning - perhaps some more in-game information (such as event information) could be delivered through news? In general, I feel like the theme is a good fit for the genre, it allows it to be challenging while not requiring any extra micromanagement. I feel like there's a lot of potential to the game if it's fleshed out even more and updated with more variety/events/mechanics, etc., although even now it certainly deserves more attention!

Just a small note: the 'unlock second region' objective at the beginning is a bit weird. Not only does it feel like it appeared too early (four turns to unlock something which needs 10 research at a generation rate of 1 research per turn? maybe I'm misunderstanding something...), I actually got a success popup on this objective despite not having unlocked the second region at that point.

Developer

Oh wow thanks a lot for the kind words!
Yes I do need to try and tackle how to expand and add new content and mechanics, I have a few ideas which once implemented hopefully can extend the gameplay - I will be adding a shop similar to Slay the Spire/ Monster train and will be creating a lot more objectives.

Great point about the pacing / research, now you mention it I totally agree, I will try and address that by tweaking a few things and adding an easier to achieve research node before the +1 region. Thanks for letting me know about the bug regarding that too, I'll try and repro.

The cards mechanics is funny and simple once you get the grasp of it. As I a casual gamer Isurely enjoyed it, feels like something I could waste a few hours a day XD

Cons: window size is quite bit and does not fit my screen (currently on a 1920x1080 setting)

Developer

thanks for the review!

Sorry, that's an annoying issue, I think this is a unity webgl /itch problem for 1920/1080 screens.. there should be a full screen button for you that itch provides at the very bottom right of the game which should fix it?
