Remarkable: SOUND! Nicely utilized, even if the bouncing sound effect *might* become a little annoying after a while.
Needs Improvement: I mostly agree with what has already been said. The ball bounces unpredictably sometimes, especially on the windmill level, for example, leading to situations where I felt like the game was screwing me over. I don't *think* that's how you intended it to feel. On other levels (04, for example), it feels like there isn't really a viable strategy that I can get better at (or maybe I just don't have the patience). Regardless, on that level especially I felt like I just had to get lucky with my bounces to finish it.
Successful: Nice variety of designs, with a couple interesting mechanics, some that you re-use (like the controlling of multiple paddles). You could combine those mechanics in a huge variety of ways to build more levels.
Remarkable: The most impressive part of this game by far is the use of sound. I think the music is really fitting for this type of game, and the bounce sound effects work really well.
Needs Improvement: This game really needs some sort of in-game explanation for how the controls work. I almost stopped at the first level because I didn't even realize I could rotate the paddle until I read the other comments posted here. Additionally, the fact that you can control the other obstacles, rather than simply being breakable blocks, is cool, but very counter intuitive. I stumbled upon that purely by accident since it was never said in the game.
Successful: I think the game is a really interesting take on the block breaker/pong designs that we went over in class. While there are some similar elements, the end goal of escaping the box is much different than in other games.
General: While I think the concept and the design of the levels/code are all superb, the game itself feels a bit janky and hard to play. I gave up at level 2 because I just found it far too frustrating to try and control two paddles at once while trying to randomly predict where the ball would bounce. Along with in game instructions, like I mentioned earlier, I think the game could really benefit from some tuning so it doesn't require very precise bounces.
The inclusion of sound in your game instead blew me away, with nice music and audio when the ball collided. The fact that you could turn the platform to change the way the ball moved was also amazing. Each level offers a unique design which allows for each level to feel different and fun.
Needs Improvement:
I think the ball should definitely bounce higher, I found myself stuck on level 4 because I felt like the ball wasn't gaining enough power to go up that slope but I did complete it after a while. My run was unfortunately ended at level 5 because the windmill pushed the ball behind it and the ball fell into the void without restarting the level. Maybe I don't understand the mechanics of the ball, but sometimes I felt a lot of levels were hard to beat with the height the ball bounces.
Successful:
The sound is incredible as I stated before and each level is very unique. I find the paddle to be very responsive as well and offer a lot in terms of movement of the ball.
General:
The game is fun and with a little tweaks I think it could be even better.
Letting the player choose the angle they hit the ball at makes each experience of the game unique, and adds a certain challenge that I wouldn't have expected to encounter while playing these games. The movement of the paddles is smooth, but fast enough that you're not unable to reach the ball after certain hits. Each level is unique enough that the experience doesn't dry itself out after the first level.
Needs Improvement:
The ball doesn't always bounce high enough in my opinion, which makes certain levels feel a lot harder than they need to. One level has two platforms that the player can control and the ball barely reaches the second platform if both are flat. There aren't many things you can attempt that will make this less of a problem, aside from trying to push the ball in a horizontal direction. If the ball bounced higher, you'd also be able to pick the speed up, as sometimes the game feels slow trying to reach the goal from the same spot over and over again.
Successful:
The angled paddles work almost perfectly, as none of the hits send the ball in a direction aside from the one you would expect it to. Finishing a level puts you onto the next level really fast, but doesn't surprise anyone by actually starting, which allows the player to move at their own pace.
General:
It's a really cool concept, certainly not anything that I had even thought of when drafting game ideas. The game itself makes it very unique, and having that much control over the paddles makes the game more reliant on the player than it does the physics of Unity, which eliminates a lot of the frustration that can come with hitting objects at an angle. I did enjoy playing through your levels, I do think the game would benefit from more movement in terms of height and speed, although that might make the game easier than you want it to be, which is perfectly understandable.
Vincent's project allows for a new take on brick breaker. The player attempts to rotate a paddle in order to get the bouncing ball through a small gap on the left side of the play area. It is both fun and challenging at the same time. Something remarkable about the game would have to be the idea to allow the paddle to rotate. Normally brick breaker has the paddle lock rotation and only allows you to move it along the x axis. The paddle can rotate in this game giving the player more freedom and control over the ball. One improvement I think that should be made is the ball should be given more initial velocity. It is very challenging getting the ball to reach the specified height sometimes because the ball either doesn't bounce enough or it doesn't get enough speed in the beginning. I think this should be changed because it is very difficult to get the ball to bounce high enough in order to advance to the next level. Overall the game is fun, but it could use a few tweaks to make it more enjoyable and satisfying to play. The idea is fun and interesting and while the execution is far from bad, it can be tweaked to make the game a bit better and more enjoyable.
