OK, I've rated this game highly and wanted to drop a little bit of a message about it. Not a huge wall of text, like it should be praising every detail of the game, but you see, that's the problem. This game is so well constructed and pulls you in so easily that I just realized I had been playing it for the past four hours and I have other things I have to do. I'm a smoker, outdoors only, and I forgot to go take a cigarette break! So, congratulations on creating digital crack. Again, I'd say a lot more but that would take time away from the game and I'm sorry, I have to get back to my addiction. First one is free, right?
The game is extremely well-balanced and decently fun, but there are some issues that hold it back. Some automation would've gone a long way, something for wood at least and it probably would've been fine to let the "The Spark Keeper" upgrade keep assignments because I made it through the game just fine forgetting them until "The End [2]". But the lack of automation isn't where the real issue lies, it's in all the little things like the miniscule window requiring zoom to be still difficult to read, but at least barely readable, the background colors often making the text unreadable, the increment amounts never staying after leaving a tab. These small QoL issues really add up over time and hurt the overall experience.
Aside from the design, this would heavily benefit from some additional automation; the most tedious part was grinding burning would (by constantly switching between manually buying sparks to buying wood, because automation would reset). Still, the balance was very nice and I liked the strategic parts with the burning wood mechanic!
I didn't like the theme changing colours throughout the game, it made text unreadable at times. Some automation for Particles > Sparks would be good. Having to type in the increment amounts should be replaced with buttons (e.g. 10%, 50%, Max) or sliders, also the amount seems to reset when you switch pages. Progression is good but maybe show the next upgrade sooner, instead of it being so close to when you can afford it.
This is a decent game, but the design in some phases makes the text almost unreadable.
