The game is really fun and the music is amazing but I get lost a lot

The game's pretty fun until you get to the part where you have to wall jump and dash back and forth to avoid the spikes. Then it gets flat out brutal. I couldn't complete the game, but I did like the different mechanics. The farthest I got was the 4th anvil.

Question: What do the 3rd and 4th anvil upgrades do?

Developer

I definitely wanted to go for a Celeste-like platformer in terms of difficulty, which is why it gets very hard at some point. There are only 3 anvils in the game, with the first upgrading your jump power, the second upgrading your dash power, and the last one upgrading the gingerbread cookies, that boost your stats for a temporary duration.

Ah, I see. The game reminded me of Celeste because of the wall jump and the dash mechanics.

Good job!  The game overall was really fun and enjoyable!  I wish there was kinda a way to press a button to restart to last checkpoint as I would get stuck sometimes and couldn't just restart till I died.  However this is just a personal preference of course.  Really good game overall and great work!  I'd really appreciate it if you could also review my game if possible!

Developer

Thanks! I should've have added a restart mechanic, but I was running low on time and completely forgot about these tiny things, but it is something I can do for next time.

Liked the art style, and the controls where pretty slick and even fumbly me could manage navigating passably.  The effect when sneaking up onto platforms was a nice touch. The music got a bit chaotic when You died. Nice job overall, I enjoyed it!

Developer

Thanks!

This game was a ton of fun and far more challenging (in a good way) than I expected. The developer clearly has a strong grasp of platforming mechanics and more importantly, how to express them to the player. Great Art Style and the journal in the opening was well written and sets the tone perfectly. All in all a great little game that felt good to play and rewarding to beat, quite the achievement given the scale of the project 👍

I actually really like the art style. some way of pointing me in the right direction would be very appreciated, probably because I have an IQ that is not to be desired.

Developer

Thanks! I definitely realised after that the game might have been confusing, but it was my intention as I wanted to create a metroidvania. I could have probably hinted more at the exploration aspect in the diary entry, but that is my bad.
