Tips for beginners?

Hi. I'm lolcat, and I'm a beginner game developer. This is my first time seriously considering to join a game jam, and here I am. Do you have any advice on how I can make games for game jams like this one?

All help is appreciated!

Start very small, get your core game loop running quickly (prototype with primitive shapes). Once that is setup and fun, you can add things on and start polishing. That's how I approach any game, not just jam games.

Thanks! I've been trying to plan games, but it just doesn't work for me when I sit to develop it. Hopefully I can do better when this jam starts!

Your game doesn’t need to be perfect. If you aim to create something perfect, you most likely never finish it. Until you get more experienced, the journey should be your goal instead of the end product. So even if you can’t finish properly, you should still upload it as a proof to yourself what you learned.
