Hi again, I wanted to add this game to LibreGameWiki, but I couldn't seem to find information on the exact source or license of the music. What was the original name of the music used in the game, and do you have a link to information about it?
Developer (1 edit)

Hey Jacob! Thanks for documenting my stuff. The music is entirely original - it was made for this game by Hoodwink (A friend of mine, you can find his soundcloud here). As far as I'm aware, it doesn't have a title. (He mentioned that if it MUST have a title,  "Dimensions" is a fine name)

There's 3 audio tracks total - the introduction music, and two variations of the same track used for the main game (Different tracks play depending on whether you're switched or not).

I'm not sure if it's available anywhere besides this game. If he chooses to distribute the soundtrack, then that is entirely up to him. I do plan on expanding this title a little bit in the future, so we may hold back on releasing the soundtrack publically until then.

Ah, so would I be correct in understanding that the music falls under GPL-3.0 as specified in the LICENSE file? That's how I would understand the license usually but since it seemed like the music was made by someone else I wanted to double check.
Developer

Yep! That's absolutely correct. Thanks for making sure!

Thank you! Also, is the related media on the itch.io game page and this jam page also free culture? I'd like to use that first screenshot with the game title as the primary image for the article.
Developer

All related media should be free to use :)

If I've screwed something up with a lisence somewhere that makes a part of this project not free, please let me know

Thank you for all the info/clarifications! I have added the game to LibreGameWiki and it has been approved: https://libregamewiki.org/Chromavescence

I really like it visually, great use of Kenney's assets. The game juice is also top tier, espcially when doing the switch thing. I'd say what made your game fit the jam theme is allowing us to "noclip" in walls at many locations ;D

Solid use of the assets and a really nice mechanic! Really enjoyed the look of the wavy layered graphics. Unfortunately found the last gem (far right) a little too punishing to reach and got a bit frustrated, but this was very fun nonetheless! I played with controller and somehow the music didn’t kick in until I pressed a key on the keyboard at the very end. Great entry :)

Great game!

Note: Took me a while to understand that space bar sprite.

Developer (1 edit)

Question; are the sprites technically my fault if kenney didn't make an asset that had the word "Space" on it

(This is, by the way, a joke. Thanks for the feedback!)

Neat game

Really well thought out use of the main mechanic. Enjoyed playing for a lot longer than I expected. I do think the control bindings for keyboard could have been more intuitive - maybe SPACE for jump, SHIFT for dash? Was very fun regardless, Awesome stuff!!

Really fun game. I loved the trippy visuals and enjoyed the layered music! I'm surprised you pulled off the idea with no major bugs in such a small time.

My biggest issue was that sometimes it's difficult to see what you can and can't go through, I didn't realize there are some walls you can go inside until after some trial and error. I also pressed space as soon as the game started and fell down instantly, skipping the tutorial initially and not knowing you can dash. The game is close to perfect still!

Cool game. It's well-polished and with clear instructions, and though it's easy to get lost in the map, it becomes familiar by the end of the game. I like how the music syncs with the gameplay as you learn the controls. It's also fun to try to map out the world and use that knowledge to beat the game as quickly as possible. See if you can collect all 5 gems in less than a minute! I did find one softlock; somehow it's possible to get stuck in the bottom-middle part of the map (In the top right corner of this section I can barely see the "KENNY Jam" logo in the top right of my screen.), and it doesn't seem possible to get out. It only happened to me twice and I couldn't figure out how to reliably reproduce it.
Developer

Thanks for the feedback! If you ever find a way to replicate the softlock, please flick me a screenshot and I'll fix it in a post-jam build - it's really tricky to design a level that stays intact when you can literally walk through walls, haha

Nice B&W

Bravo! Your game is fun! B/W look's good.

Wow! I love how it's intentionally broken. At one point I just stoped understanding where I am and I love everything about this fact. It really is the game about exploration

Very unique mechanic, the controls are a bit too fast I think
