This is the most obscure idle game I've played recently. It took a while to figure out what to do, and I really like that about it!

Could you please compile this as an executable for Windows, and mark it as such in your game's settings? That would make playing and rating your game a lot easier. Thank you.

alternatively, you can download love2d from love2d.org. They have an executable using which you can execute .love files.

in fact, "compiling it as an executable for windows" consists of taking one of the executables (love.exe) you can find at love2d.org and simply adding the .love file to the end of the executable.

you have the choice every time you download a game to (1) download this executable file (love.exe) plus the .love file (combined as one big game executable file), or to (2) download the love2d engine from love2d.org once and having all .love files be automatically run with it.

(1) may be more convenient for you at first, but the more games you have which depend on love2d, (2) becomes increasingly more beneficial (it saves space and download time).

In a game jam which is centered around love2d, i think it is quite reasonable to only provide the .love file, and have everything else optional. Installing the love2d engine would also allow you to play (and rate!) all other entries in this jam (such as mine) without depending on the developers to provide a windows executeable (because i don't).

chill dude
Callum is just making a harmless request; plus, he has an entry in this game jam so he most certainly has love2d installed. It's probably his preference to have games as a windows exe. Also, no need to assert your own game lol

I really like the obscurity of the interface :) the effects are great, too!

Well, I harvested tons of 255-bytes, fed the virus and am still very confused XD What is happening with my tree!

Looks like BlankSparrow ran out of time: I unzipped the .love and... feeding the virus and anti-virus doesn't do anything except increase the number which is shown next to virus/anti-virus.  There's no win condition AFAICT.  You can defrag the red cells and give yourself more growing room, but it is extremely expensive: you have to harvest the whole initial growing area about 3.5 times in order to afford one cell of defrag.

So after the first few minutes there's nothing to do except select a box that contains the whole growing area, seed it, wait 30 seconds (or so) harvest it, and repeat.  Then about every two minutes you get to add another cell to your growing area. It's an interesting idea but clearly very unfinished at this point.

Oh that's why I wasn't able to defrag, I had too less harvested bytes! I always selected several fields.

I like the idea, with a little bit of clean up it can be a great game.

Yeah, very neat idea: lots of cool possibilities here.
