Was the resolution a challenge?
If anything it helped me keep my scope miniscule, but it did make some design elements tricky to work with.

What did you learn?
Even a project as small as this ended up with some messy spaghetti as I tacked on bits and pieces. It's given me a much better idea of what is and isn't important to define early in a game's infrastructure.

I made it to the bottom!

The game was easy but it never particularly felt easy, which I think means you hit the right balance. I agree that the scrolling background managed to keep me engaged, as it kept a feeling of progress. The bottom section also felt  super scary and challenging, which made it fun to dance back and forth!

Singing your praise aside, the game did feel a little too simplistic and I wish it had more.  Once you reach the bottom, replayability is pretty much out. So some achievements to do during the fall (reach a certain speed, do a certain time, etc) would've helped, or even having multiple levels where you can fall into different planets as different astronauts.

That being said, it was a fun and well executed concept, and the little snarky dialogues were just as fun :) (I loved the fall from space intro, that felt super clever)

Grats! Thanks for giving it a whirl, and for the critique. If I do anything similar in future I will absolutely jack those good ideas, hope you don't mind! Using the environment as incentive to play is a good takeaway from releasing this, so adding additional planets would be a bonus on that front too. Cheers again!

I LOL'd so hard when I "finished" the game. Hilarious, unpretentious, fun, well polished and aptly designed. The pixel art is outstanding and the text / backstory fits the theme and the mood perfectly. It's short, sure, but its length is completely appropriate for the experience — great fit for the jam format, very brave in its genuine simplicity. This game has the indistinguishable mark of someone who's more interested in having fun while creating and perfecting something instead of trying to "reinvent the craft" and impress their peers. Thank you for making this.

Thank you so much! I'm glad you had a good time with it. The reason I joined the jam was to take a break from larger projects with indeterminate goals - I wanted to make something quick, fun, and most importantly, finished. I had to stop myself from feature creep several times and keep everything super concise, so it makes me happy that the simplicity is well-received.

Very well made. Watching the background scroll in kept me wanting to see what was at the surface.

The messages were a cute touch and audio was well designed.

Lots of neat little details.

Developer

Thanks! Really appreciate the feedback. Honestly, I put far too little effort into the background design. In retrospect I could have used a more interesting surface as a reward for reaching the goalpost.

This was fun! I enjoyed the cutesy audio. The game has a lot of character.

I wish there were more on the gameplay side. What if you could get more of a preview when the ground is coming?

Actually, it reminds me of Battletoads on the NES. The third level in that game is a lot like this. You're on these racer bikes, and they keep coming at you really quickly. You have to dodge out of the way.

Thanks for playing! I can totally see that comparison, it's pretty much the same but the view is rotated 90 degrees. If I'd thought of that earlier I probably would've stolen the little heads up they do for the next rock that's going to appear.

Thank you! Congrats on making it back to solid ground, even if it was just the once.
