I'm hoping to come back and finish this game in august when I have more free time, as it is all the "content" was made in literally the final 30 minutes of the jam.

I think he mentioned this particular level in one of his more recent devlogs. It's just to demonstrate a mechanic (the fact you can leave magnus to the side while you go elsewhere) so other levels later on make more sense

I do feel like that was demonstrated in other levels earlier on though, so this one may be a little out of place

I’m hoping to come back and finish it (finally) before this summer, so I’ll write that down on my list.

Wicked game! 
You did a really good job on the visuals, as well as depth of mechanics. I really like how this game just looks

I really liked the description at mouse hover (this could be a staple of this style of game, but I havent played many ascii games like this before!), it really gives me a sense of trepid exploration, and makes the game feel more storybook. The enemy variety was also a plus!

One thing I would've liked though would be some tooltips for effects/statuses (like vampirism). I'm not sure how youre supposed to figure out what they do otherwise, aside from a lot of testing? This is a complex game though, and one for sure I know takes quite a few playthroughs to really understand and soak in.

Overall this is a pretty wicked submission, I would've been super proud if I had submitted this!

im pretty proficient in godot and have been using it for around 5 years now. You can see some of my old game jam games on my page, but here’s a list of some projects I’ve been working on recently in my free time: 

-A PSX style survival horror game based heavily off of Resident Evil 1 

-a monkey ball style arcade game

-a 2D Multiplayer crafting game 


my only con is I don’t have the most free time, but I’m also experienced in game design and teaching godot to others so it could be fun to help out!

Honestly those frogs are one of my better creations, sometimes I would just spawn a bunch and watch them hop!

I was only 15 when I made my first game ever, and let me tell you, it was a mess!

It took me like 3 months and was only 30 minutes long, but the reason I finished it was because I had a TON of fun with development! 

So in my opinion, when youre a younger teenager, the real trick to game development is simply finding something you can understand and that you enjoy doing. My first game wasn't in any game engine, it was actually in Javascript alone. So you should really try out a bunch of different ways of making games until you find something you enjoy doing! Here are some fun ones I would recommend for a beginner programmer/developer:

  • -Scratch ( no coding, just block programming!)
  • -Pygame (basic python, which is an easier language to learn)
  • -LOVE2d (This is with lua, which is one of the simplest and most fun languages to work in!)
  • -Godot (this is a simpler game engine that uses a game like python, which is also quite fun!)

Also, if you ever want personal help in any of these, I'm (mostly) well versed and would love to help :)

Wowww!! This is so cute, it instantly brought a smile to my face. This looks like it's so much fun to develop, can't wait to see more :)

ahh!!! Not taking damage was a random bug that popped up, I fixed, it popped up again, so I refreshed the page and it just… never popped up again

WHAT an adorable game. I love the concept and aesthetic, its a neat little package. However whenever I tried dropping my plants, they kind of vanished instead :,)? I don't think my customers will be happy that I vanquished everything they gave me haha

YES!!! I loved this game SO MUCH! The art and colors are beautiful, and the whole thing worked really well in the 64x64 size, so great job on that.

I liked the first-person take on  the classic mystery dungeon style of game, it made the actual exploration and movement aspect a lot more fun than it usually is in those games. However, it also lowers awareness (and control over movement), which makes combat a lot more difficult (i.e. I got my ass KICKED in this game)

My favorite part though, above everything else, is just the audio. The audio just gives me brain tingles, its such a crucial part of the game, it really ties in and cements the fun and cutsie aesthetic. Makes the game fun to simply exist in, and made  my sole purpose to travel around smashing pots.

PLEASE teach me how to do audio like that some time, I'm so jealous and wish I knew how!!

Sweet game! This looks like it was a ton of fun to make, I'm a little jealous!

As for improvements, maybe some extra color in the environment or background music wouldve been nice :) We spend a lot of time on this planet, so anything to make it more interesting is a plus!

Awesome game! The art was my favorite part, the color and level design is really well done and great at portraying the environment. The gameplay was well polished and fun, and I appreciated the lenient difficulty. I wish water didn't insta-kill as it made certain gems REALLY frustrating to get, and the sounds were a little rough I felt (though it seems I'm alone in this :) ), but overall this is such a good entry. Great job!!

Wowowow! Loved it! Complex, but very well polished game, so great job.

The graphics were super cute and enjoyable, and the gameplay system was complex and interesting, but had a well written tutorial that made it easy to understand!

My ONLY complaints are related to quality of life (aka nothing you'd expect from a jam :^) )

But, I wish

A) The end turn button had an "are you sure?" prompt as I did hit it on accident, resulting in my untimely death

and

B) That game overs didn't make you have to restart the game, or if it did, that you could skip the tutorial instead of having to redo it every time.


Overall, awesome jam entry :)

Most of my work happened in the final 5 days or so of the jam, but I did work on it at least a couple of hours before that. But for the final day I put in ~15 hours and was working till 5 am, but it was definitely worth it!!

I'm proud of the content and story, I just wish I had cut back a little so I would've been able to polish it more!

As you can tell I kind of fully invested myself into fleshing out the world and adding content... which came at the cost polish (I didn't even manage a title screen in time!) 

Something to note for future jams though!

I think the perfect way to describe this game is "one day short of perfection"

aka a really good game, just a few dials away from being great!

The visual style is so striking (perhaps one of my favorite visually in the jam), and the theme and game feel is all there. The platforming however, is just SLIGHTLY off. Its just a little too precise, making jumps a frustrating and turning it more into a rage platformer than the fun flowy platformer the art style and title suggest. Everything in this game has juice and feel, except the jumping itself, such a shame!

Nitpicks aside, you really did produce an awesome game. Just being in it feels great, and got me to keep playing until I died! 

I made it to the room with all the flame dispensers, after the 1st health reset!

Thank you so much!! I may have been a little TOO ambitious, but I did pour my heart and soul into the game over the short period we had.

What an experience, games like this are my favorite part of the jam. Just interesting concepts and experiences pulled off for the sake of experimentation.


You packaged this super well, I was fully engaged right from the start!

Ack!! Thats the biggest issue with making such a huge map in a two week jam... funky collision..........

This is definitely one of those games that doesn't feel at all restricted by the low resolution

My only complaint is that it felt almost too hand holdy at times. One of my favorites parts of the original satellite dreamer was the "aha!" moment you got when you discovered a new mechanic/new way to use the gun. That was still hear, but lost some of its pizzaz when a cat just told me the answer.

But this was a ton of fun to blast around in as ever, and I liked the new bubble gun and all the bosses!

And yeah if I had to guess it was definitely all of the music that lead to the large size! The godot plugin I was using was a little old, so all of the sounds in the game had to be pre-instantiated or else it would randomly crash.

Super fun! The mechanic was awesome, and the visuals were really pretty, but they were also the biggest weakness. All the effects lead to a LOT of clutter, which is something that really impacts gameplay when you're playing in 64x64 resolution. All the screen clutter made it really hard to understand what was going on at first, but once I got it, it really kicked in!


The midair directional changes, and trying to plan my jumps, was super fun! I just wish the mechanic was better explained so I couldve gotten more use out of it earlier!

I love the new and interesting mechanic! Exploring mechanics and ideas is what jams are all about in my mind, and you really pulled off that idea.


I feel like its a mechanic that has sooo much potential but is JUST missing something that would bring it to perfection. Maybe some higher quality UI, or having time fully stop (so you can pull off awesome combos and so on!)

Overall a very unique system I could see being made into an incredibly fun super-hot like game. 

Great entry, hope to see more :)


p.s. - Im not sure if it was my device, but the audio was REALLY REALLY quiet? I could barely hear it even at 600 % browser volume

Super great first game!

I think the ONLY thing its missing is some epic chase music. I think any sort of intense chase song would've really sold the whole experience!

My only complaint gameplay wise is the over-reliance on boost pads; it feels like the only time I can go fast and have fun is when I hit a boost pad. But since boost pads are a high skill option, its kind of rare that I actually land them! (and they're relatively uncommon)

Lovely art and good sound design, little lacking in the gameplay department though. Very unique entry that was still a joy to check out!

Awesome!!!! You really nailed the feel, combat just FEELS nice, and the robot hitting sounds are perfect. It felt really good to smack a robot

My ONLY complaints are:
- Weird confusing control scheme

-Little TOO difficult (maybe due to the control scheme?)

But the sun sapped away a LOT of health really fast, which made me especially weak to the robots. Still an awesome entry though, keep it up!

Definitely an interesting concept, but just falls a LITTLE flat. The narrator felt too gimmicky, instead of relevant to gameplay. Instead, they only slow things down.


I think the game would easily be a TON better if the narrator added to the gameplay instead of just existed

What an awesome concept game! 

This feels like a love letter to creation and experimentation, and seems like it was just so much fun to build. The control scheme was a really interesting take, and I audibly exclaimed when you revealed the zoom mechanic (it blew my mind!)

You did things in godot I didn't even know were possible, super cool entry

Cute! Nice and simple gameplay, maybe a little too simple though. Removing the aspect to shoot removes a lot of interactivity, which makes it harder to engage

It had surprisingly good game feel though, and also nice visuals! Still felt nice to just run around and dodge bullets!

I LOVE the game so far!!! It's very cute, with a distinct visual style and fantastic game feel, thank you for making it. I really like the cute and simple combat, that still gives some feeling of skill and challenge. I also enjoy the constant bug-on-bug duels 

My only major complaint right now is that the player is dead center when fighting. When I'm dueling another shorter bug, my player obscures them and it makes it hard to see what move they're going to do

I only mention it because you guys are so good at listening and updating the game :)

 I'm very excited to continue diving into it


Also Bug: When equipping an item while another is already equipped, sometimes it deletes the equipped item

I love your pico-8 rogue-likes! They have a ton of charm and personal touch, and always guarantee a fun experience. I appreciated the large health bar, which pretty much guaranteed I could experience the whole game (something I have struggled with in the past...)

P.s. - I've been thinking about remaking Don't Croak in a similar art style! I haven't dabbled too much with it yet, but I would really like to fully expand upon the game
