Definitely a very early prototype. I could complain about the lack of sounds, effects, animations, UI, etc, but I think I'd just be preaching to the choir.
The art is pretty good, and clearly beyond a placeholder. The style isn't really for me- I like colour too much- but it's well done.
The mechanics seem... fine, I guess. It's sometimes hard to tell what's going on without any of the chrome that didn't make it into this game.
The "paths" feel like a hack to technically quality as a Ren'ai, and I don't understand why I got the ending I did.
As usual, the art is amazing. Wish there was some music and sfx, even stock would have been fine like in your last entry. Turn-based combat is alright, not too complicated but not much depth either. From the way the genre mashup is handled, I suspect you probably didn't care much for the idea of having to follow two genres...
Nah, just bad planning.
I like the clean line art. The characters look pretty good. It wasn't immediately apparent to me that I had to pick the sword icon and then select an attack, but I figured it out pretty quick. I like the star icon that runs around the currently active character. The game desperately needs some sound, music, and enemies that attacks and otherwise presents challenges to the player, but as the title says it's not even pre-alpha. Here's hoping for a full alpha next time!
If I have time I'll make a complete game out of it. But as of currently I have other plans game dev wise.
do they ever attack ?
Anyway, looks like it could be a game. Next jam = ] !
Nope. No attacks.
I like the art and the concept is workable. The current unit indicator is cute.
I think even in a case where you have a failed project you should make a description on your itch page and a screenshot or two so people know what they're getting into. This is obviously a very short little combat sim but you still could have explained the characters, the attacks and whatever your plan was for the full game.
Good luck next time.
I should have, probably done so. But I do have a reason for doing it like this. That way my entry is neither good enough to rank nor so bad it's good. If I am going to fail might as well do it convincingly.
The gameplay is decent and I’m surprised that even at this state, I can see how it’ll work - in fact, presenting it this way looks like a card game, which I thought was the case at first. I also noticed that attacks have range, so the position of the cards matter. It’s unfortunate that there’s not much else, but it is not entirely an unfinished game; I thought this would be just unplayable but no, it’s like another submission, Cute Card Magic but without a failure state. Other than that, the art is nice and I appreciate that there’s at least a simple border animation to indicate whose turn it is. There’s a UI bug where if there are a lot of messages, it will push the cards further apart and eventually the player won’t be able to do anything. All in all, good effort. Keep it up!
Hmm, I thought I fixed that bug before, but apparently not. Thanks for the reply.
I like the manga-like art style. Sadly there is no game. I gave you an F in the rating.
Well, the title of the game says it all... clearly it's not finished.
That said, I really like the artwork! I'd love to see the alpha, or beta, or even finished version of the game with more of this art. Keep it up!
I might revisit this at some point, but not for a while.
